I am doing a speaker project with the Onkyo buyout tweeters and the NSB mid woofers. ( I am looking to post progress in about 1 month.)

I am about to order the crossover parts and want to keep cost down. What is the difference between 027-424 DAYTON DMPC-6.8 6.8uF-250V POLYPROPYLENE CAPACITOR and the 027-336 6.8uF-100V NON-POLARIZED CAPACITOR. ( Other than the 250V vs. 100V )

I am going to put this Cap on the + input to the Onkyo tweeter.

Two Questions....

Will there be a performance difference?
Will it be acceptable to use?

Thanks.

One's poly and one's electrolytic. I would use the cheaper of the two on those drivers. You may want to buy a few smaller value ones to parallel in case they are not to spec. I've used both and really can't tell that much of a difference.

Some people hear differences, with electrolytic generally being given the nod as the worst option. ;)

The biggest issue is the tolerance: electrolytics can be off a decent amount which can alter the response curve of the crossover. Poly caps are usually much closer.

In the case of a dirt cheap setup, I use electrolytics. :)

You might look at mylars. They split the difference on quality and price. Check out Madisound's sale page.

yeah... I'm not doing many ultra cheap cheap projects these days. :)

I like ordering from Madisound. If it goes out the day I order, it's at my doorstep the next day. ;)

I like ordering from parts express -- If I order before 3 it does go out the same day -- and it is on my doorstep ethr at home -- or at school behind the desk the next day ;)

Madisound is cool though too :) it's like 2-3 days ship time :) still prty damn fast in my book for anything online :) -- they just raised their prices on a lot of things though :( makes me sad...

I like the cap/coil buyouts though!!!!!
