Take the Dayton 8”DVC 295-480 ($23) and put it in a bandpass box.
Back box size is 10.5 liters, Front box size is 10.5 liters, 35 Hz to 100 Hz, 86 db
One voice coil for each channel

TangBand 4” Bamboo 264-846 ($39.91) in a sealed 2.35-liter box, F3 150 Hz, -6 db 100Hz

A little BSC on the TangBand.

Simple coil going to woofer and cap to Tangband, these would not be for frequency response shaping but for keeping the system impedance from going to low.

I have about 20 minutes into this idea, it has not been well thought out.

What do you think?

Might sound good but it is technically not a replacement for the cubes which are .15 liters or thereabouts.

This is exactly the point; making something that small sound decent is a significant challenge. If you are not going to produce a small box like this then what is the point of comparing it to said Bose box? It is not the same product thus do the TB thing but don't bother to compare it to something you hate (I assume).

Apples to Apples, not Apples to Kumquats.

While you are at it, use a roughly 6" or so driver for the sub if you are really trying to build a similar system.

Personally I would simply forget about the Acoustimess and do something worth doing. None of us give a rat's patootie about vanishing speakers - quite the opposite, in fact - so why limit yourself? Your approach is great if you want a small speaker most if not all of us would be happy with in the right context, but the folks dropping (burning?) their green on an Acoustimess are not likely to consider it a comparable product unless the enclosures are the same size.

The Bose cubes are 6.25” h, 3” w, 4” d
The TangBands are 7.5” h, 5.5” w, 6” d, it’s subjective but not that much larger
There may be 3” drivers that will allow the same size cubes as Bose.
The sub box might be just a little smaller than the Bose.

The 3” drivers would bring it in at the same enclosure size as the Bose. I have seen response graphs for the Bose, it shouldn’t be a problem to do better.

But I can get honest 35 Hz at a 12 db roll off out of the same size woofer box using the DVC 8” in a bandpass.

Agreed, that’s what I’ve said in the past. For the $100 worth of drivers and a minimum of caps and coils the Bose would be destroyed. Only one way to verify that, build and compare. They would make good inexpensive presents. Small amount of 1/2" mdf on the sats.
