I just experienced a harrowing ordeal with my Dayton 8 towers. One of the dust caps on my Dayton classic woofer got punched in by a 1 year old. I was able to pop to cap out without any lasting effects. I need to get my grilles build by the next time my nephew is here. I wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions for attaching the grilles. PE offers a couple of options, but the best seems to be.

What do you guys think? Does anyone have any other sources for any other grille guides? Maybe some made from metal?

Razor wire...Eletric fence.....Guard dogs
Just kidding.
I have used the grill guides you speak of, with limited success. I had trouble with the holes splitting out(but they were close to the edge of the wood)I think if you were able to drill the holes in far enough from the edge you would be ok.
I'm going to try industrial Velcro on my next project.

These are my favorite grill guides that PE sells. I've had really good luck with these as long as you don't get to close to the edge (of course that's with any guide). They are small, durable, inexpensive, and do the job. What more could you want. Regards, Paul.

I've used these:

and they've worked fine for me. They snap in place and hold the grill on well.

A tip for installing this type of grill guide:
For the ball or male half use a socket that goes over the ball and presses against the flange to push them in the grill without damaging the tip. Make sure you measure twice so they all line up and use the proper size drill bit so they don't fall out.

I have had good luck with adhesive backed velcro(R). The best part is that it is very easy to install; put the hook part on the corners of the grill, stick the loop part to the piece on the grill, remove the backing and press the entire grill in place on the speaker. The pieces automatically line up.

I make my grills from 3/16 x 1 1/8" wood and cloth and have had no problems with this method even with grills for large floorstanding speakers.
