I want to build speakers to replace my BR-1's. I like the sound of the Br-1's I do agree they lack a bit in the mids but overall the sound good. I was orignally going to go witht the D3's because im used to the sound of the br-1's and just need more volume. But im told the truines would sound better. But they wont play as loud. Then im told the Ipresarios. But those will not fit into my budget. So untill now im stuck. I think im going to go home listen to movies and music and ask my self do they sound fine to me. But untill now im stuck.

You might want to take a look at Dennis Murphy's revised crossover for the BR-1s. Might settle that tweaking urge, for a litle less money, or at least put it off for a while longer ;-)

I have a set of Sony Retrofits, that are essentially BR-1s, that I recently bought crossover parts for. Unfortunatly, it will probably be a month before I have time to build the new crossovers and report my impressions. :(
Maybe there are others that have built them, that can chime in.

Man, it's taking you a long time to make up your mind. Whatever you end up building will not be your last pair. Just ask the guys around. I have a win-win situation for you: if the new speakers sound good, keep them. If they don't, just keep building...

I've heard a pair of BR-1's driven with an HK 100w/ch amp until the soft clip LED's light, and it's pretty loud. Right after that those little 6"ers will bottom out (bang, bang, bang). With a 12" Quatro sub, the bottoming stops and HT is pretty amazing. You should be experiencing this at your current level unless your room is huge. Maybe you should consider whether or not you'd like to be able to still enjoy DIY at the ripe old age of 50, and perhaps reappraise your target SPL of 118 dB.
