View Full Version : small (cheap) sub idea...
I was looking at the 8" and 10" dayton DVC. hmmm... at $20-$30 each, why not get two and run them with the 240W @8ohms (each voice coil in series, subs in parallel)? You could do two separate boxes and have one under each L&R main. Heck, you could pole mount the mains onto the subs... Small box, cheap...
How much output do you think these things would put out? Comparable to a single 12" or 15"?

Around 112db at 100hz with peak power with 2 the 10" at 1m. At 40hz your probly looking at 106db. So yeah about the same as a 15" maybe a little less. A 15" in larger box would probly sound better though and have much lower distortion.

Don't forget the 240W amp is rated at 240 watts @ 4 ohms. Run it into 8 ohms and it gives you something around 170 watts.

> I built a set of tower speakers with 2 x8" Sealed DVC in each cabinet running off one 240 Watt plate amp and I loved it. Wish I had kept them instead of the single 12" Sheilded DVC sub I have now. 2x8" in a 2.2 cuft box ported to 28Hz had great spl output sounded much better with music than the single 12".

Yeah, but the subs are only rated for 80W RMS each, which would make the 240W perfect for 2 of them @ 8 ohms. ;)
