To Tom and all who care. I had to make a decision as to whether to make new baffles and turn this into an MTM, turn it into a 2.5 way or leave it as is. The cost constraints of a 2.5 turned me a little sour even though I did get it to model fairly well--I think. In the end I decided to leave it as a two way. An article on PJays site made up my mind. Here's the link to that article.

I spent well over 30 hours on this crossover and tried 3 different ones. The last one was almost there but after final measuring I had to tweek the tweeter down and there was a hugh null at 500 instead of the before peak. Had to just play around swapping out components until it measured right. You will notice the 3.5db dip at the crossover. But look at the 30 degree off axis(RED). It smooths out very, very nicely into about a +/- 1db until around 10khz. Thus this does not need any toe in and probably will sound a little lacing if toed in. The soundstage is very wide. OK, how about the bass. You mentioned that the bass only went to 100hz. In this box the F3 is right around 60hz. Box is 1.5cf. In room response indicates bass to the mid 40s. I haven't noticed any lobing problems just nice sound. The impedance is right at 6ohms but most would call this an 8ohm speaker. Easy to drive, decent efficiency, and for a basically unheard of design in these neck of the woods a speaker that sounds damn good. More than the buyout price indicated. So all I have to say is sometimes the unorthodox works. You just have to be patient and try and try again. Now that I have finished this I need to pickup all those xover parts strewn all over the workshop while I was swapping out components. I can almost guarantee you that you will like this xover. Cheers, Paul.

I measured them with my LCR meter to get fairly exact readings.

I will get this written up and posted on my website in due time. I wanted to let everyone know that the woofer inductor is a high DCR air core. I used two .55 20ga inductors to come out with 1.1 and then used my LCR to measure resistance that came out to around 1ohm. Once I get the writeup done I will have DCR listed. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Paul, I offered to help you with the crossover design but we never resolved the measurement issues. I have some ideas on how to make a 2.5 way design with the drivers connected in series but I wanted to make sure I had a good set of measurements before devoting a lot of time to the crossover design.

Thanks Roman but I'm sure you have better use of your time than spending lots of time on a buyout special. I got to thinking about the cost of the woofers and then the cost of a large inductor and its like what for? These sound really better than they have a right, plus they are for a friend's playstation setup. I can't hear any weird stuff happening so I think they are ok. I appreciate your offer and in the future will look forward to any and all help. They actually measured pretty well, especially on axis. Nothing really stands out at ya and the sound is pleasing. Again, thanks!

Let me mess around with the measurements you already sent me. I think if I splice the nearfield measurements around 500 Hz a lot of the nasty floor/ceiling bounce stuff will go away. The first round of "March Madness" is over so I won't be spending as much time in front of the TV until the end of this week and should have more time to look at your design. I'm pretty sure I should be able to come up with a nice solution for you. I've learned not to rush crossovers because they are really critical to the sound of a speaker and I think I might be able to offer you a design that has the potential to sound better than your current configuration but I'll have to mess with the simulation first. Stay tuned...

Thank you, if it gets to be to much don't worry though. These little guys will be around my house for a few more weeks maybe longer if the guy doesn't come up with some cash. So, I do have time to mess around with them. Keep in mind, that I'm trying to keep the cost to a minimum. I'm tyring to sell them for $200.00. That way I get my parts, wood, etc back but only a few dollars for all the hard work. Seems to always go that way. But with that $200 I may just buy some really nice mids. Thus the reason for my previous post on the HIFIs. Is it me or hav you noticed that PE doesn't have a vey large offering of manufacturers anymore. Looks mainly like TB, HIFI, Morel. I guess Madisound has the vifa you spoke of above. I'll check it out. Thanks, Paul.
