I just found out today there is a Rockler store in Indy. I've probably passed the location a few dozen times this year alone. The big problem is my dear old mum found one of my Rockler catalogs and now she's got all kinds of idea for things I should build for her.
Between Rockler and the Apple store a couple of miles down the road, my bank account is going to hate me soon. MacBook Pro or cool woodworking stuff... crap.

Have not heard of this 'Rockler' of which you speak. Furniture?

Here in St. Louis, we've got a Woodcraft store, but the EASY places to drop cash are the two Harbor Freight stores... Picked up some casters yesterday for a project...
The nearest Woodcraft is 30 miles away. The nearest HF is about 100 miles and the nearest Rockler is about 250. The Woodcraft I visit most often is in Delaware (reasonably close to I-95 and no sales tax.) Ditto HF.
I guess nobody thinks we do woodworking near NYC. At least we have one very good lumberyard nearby (M. L. Condin, about 7 miles from my house.)
You Midwesterners don't know how good you've got it.
Best regards,
Bill

I hear that. I don't think people in Connecticut know what a router is. I have to show the guys at my lumberyard what mdf is. Then they won't believe it only costs 25$. Then they're to lazy to help me drag the 100lb sheet to the truck. I don't know why i pay for it. ARGH.....

This might make you chuckle a bit then, Bill. I have 2 (count 'em, TWO) lumber yards well within walking distance of my house. Both are approx. 2 blocks away, one to the north and one to the east. They have saved my arse more than once when I've gotten in a jam. I also have a very large plumbing supply house right behind my house.
Yeah, it does suck at times living in an area zoned commercial/residential/light industrial but the benefits are awesome. It's also nice when a business gets antsy for growing space and offers me 2.5 times what I paid for my house. Once they have hit the magic number, I'm selling and building a place out in the sticks. With a nice sized pole barn of course!

I love that store! There's a Rockler and a Woodcraft near Seattle, along with an assortment of Harbor Freight. I've attended a few classes that Woodcraft hosts and learned a bunch. I found out about Rockler from the New Yankee Workshop. I have to carefully avoid some of their sales, otherwise it can eat into my motorcycle and speaker building money!
