View Full Version : Cell phone battery...
Recently purchased new cell phone (lg vx5300) and bought aftermarket replacement battery for spare. The aftermarket battery (AB) worked for a charge or two but now every time I try to use the AB, I get message "use genuine battery" and unit powers off. Why would the AB work a few times then never work again???
The cell phone and stock battery work fine...
TIA,
George

It's for your safety. You should Google some stories about exploding cell phones. Aftermarket cell phone batteries are notoriously poorly manufactured. While I am not familiar with the actual mechanism for determining a non-OEM battery, I am aware that manufacturers have begun building "smart" batteries with an EEPROM serial number that must match an algorithim in the phone in order to work. Now, my guess is that LG lets you use the AB battery a couple times in case you are in a situation where you NEED the battery and no OEM batteries are sold - such as being on vacation in a remote location....
