Remember the project we were talking about? well Zaph has published some new info on the AA6.5 and a few other drivers of interest. One thing that comes to mind right away is the 84dB on it. the FS at 50hz isn't too shabby, but with the travel on this one it should work great for your idea. another one to look at is the Mach 5 audio 6.5" they have. the specs on the webpage Vs what Zaph came up with aren't even close. But I think I like the t/s better from what Zaph got. Not as much Xmax as the AA6.5, But It's looking almost as smooth in the midrange area. After looking at these new messured specs, I think it'll be over kill for me to use the MDM-55 as a mid.
take a look at the MLI-65 and the AA6.5 and let me know what you think. Might be worth it for me to go with the MLI-65 due to price and location.
The Mach 5 driver does have higher distortion throughout the range than the AA, and with the highest points around 1-2khz i bet it would sound pretty edgy.
Uhh... You were planning a CC right? What was the tweeter you were planning on? The AA wouldn't have a problem crossing upwards of 2.5khz, much past that and it will start to lobe, although 3k is very doable.

3KHz may be asking a bit much, especially for a center channel where off axis is an issue. A 6.5" driver typically starts to have off axis issues above 2KHz as you can see from the plot below. That's the 830875, and you can see that the output has dropped more than a couple dB at 3KHz for 30deg off axis. It may not be an issue if you're not sitting that far off axis, just something to consider.

Woops, forgot to look at the distortion test for that one.. my bad.
I'm not too worried about crossing that high since it's going to be a 3-way design useing a mdm-55 dome mid and some mdt-39's I have sitting around. But after looking though Zaphs, I might go with a diferent tweet. If I get a chance i'll roughly draw out my idea and send it to you.
