My son brought over the amp section of one of his friends 'subwoofer'. -Said he was 'pushing it a little hard'. Uh, huh….
A cursory exam indicates that it is probably toast. The protection fuse on each channel, as well as the main is gone, and what I believe is a MOV on the P/S board whose one lead has been vaporized. I haven’t measured to see if the output drivers were shorted, but I’m pretty confident that’s what I’ll find.
Interesting concept. Upon a bit of internet sleuthing it appears to actually be a mini PA system as you can see from the link below. The ‘sub’ actually contains 4 channels (2 sub, 2 satellite) they claim to produce 150 watts each into 4 ohms.
-How they do this with a 35-0-35 volt 525 VA transformer is probably another story.
Any thoughts?
