I want to build a very large set of speakers, and do it with not a very large wallet. I'm thinking line aray with the $0.25 buyout tweeters. I need a mid woofer that is dirt cheap that I can use. These will most likly either end up being garage speakers or basement speakers. I was thinking Foster 5.25" Wide Band Woofer - 00504 from Madisound.com They are only $3 ea. and being a 5.25" speaker I would not need as many. But can they sound desent?

I'm also interested if anyone is selling a case or so of speakers that would work like those Onkyo buyout 4x6's I missed out on.

Thanks for any sugestions,

I know someone who is building this with Dayton Neos.

If he doesn't writ back here, I'll give him your comment.

Also, if you buy 64 of the Dayton neo's you can get them for about $3.50 each

Quite a few builders have used this combination in my SLA and TLAH line arrays with good results.

I built an array of 12 Foster woofers with the 32 Dayton neo tweets. I'm using a Behringer 3 way active crossover (about $110 at Guitar Center)and I'm biamping with some tiny tube amps. The sensitivity is amazing. I have 6 watts on the tweets and it's more than enough to cope with 30w on the mids. I'm using an ultracurve to tune it to my room. When I built the boxes things changed as I went along.
I didn't use any math to build my enclosures. I just tried to minimize the baffle width and get the tightest spacing available. I wasn't concerned with low end output. I started with open baffle and mutated into sealed enclosures of baltic birch. I planned to crossover at about 100hz.
I've paired them with one or two of Bill's Table Tubas (really great subs) and the whole package presents tons of dynamics using minimal power. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
