View Full Version : help with selenium horns
ok i have part number 264-318, and i bought part number 264-204 to go with them. only problem is i didnt realize they only play up to 9k hz. i want some horns that play like tweeters, up to like 20k. i have the eminence apt80 tweets, and im gonna cross those AND the horns over at the same point, most likely 4k hz and up. so basically im gonna keep the horn bodies that i have, but need 2 new compression drivers that get LOUD, and will play the frequencies i want them to play. as far as power goes, the amp i have now will give about 75w rms to each horn @ 8 ohm, if theres a 4 ohm horn thatll take 150w rms, that would be even better.
thanks!

Use 264-225. They're flat to 10k, but useable above that. It does roll off more gradually than the 204. The 264-204 is actually a cheap *midrange*.

thanks
i do like how the 204's sound, theyre loud, and great midrange, its just im gonna have alot of mids, and i want the horns to play the high notes :)
so itll be fine crossed @ 4k and itll play above 10k? what should i set the slope at?
also how are the 264-242's? i notice the sensitivity is more on these, and they play to 20k and theyre cheaper. whats the difference in these and the ones you posted?
thanks

1" coil vs. 1.7", which translates to 7 watt vs. 25 watt thermal capacity. The DH200 can operate down to about 2.5k, where the 150 cannot (without blowing them consistently).
Sensitivity is misleading on horn drivers, because it is dependent on the horn used to measure it. Put the same driver on a narrower pattern horn, and the output is confined to a smaller space. Measured sensitivity goes up. I doubt one is really any louder than the other - all decent 1" exit drivers are around 105dB/W on a 60x40 horn. Put it on a 120x40 and it's 3dB less, and on a 40x40 (typical for super-tweeter horns) it will be about 2dB more.

so would i be better off with the 150's (since im not playing down to 2.5k anyways)
either way im sure either one would play the high notes that im looking for right?

For a 3 way either would be fine. If you were trying to go 2 way, there would be no contest.
