I was recently requested to provide the sound system for a good friend’s 50th birthday party. Since it is going to be held a local fire hall, I wanted to build something that can play respectively loud. Given a limited budget and time, I am planning on using some driver that I have on hand. My plan is to use the speakers below in an MTM configuration with the woofers wired in parallel.

AUDAX HT170JL28 6-1/2" JBL WOOFER 12 OHM

EMINENCE APT-80 SUPER TWEETER
<A HREF="http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&PartNumber=290-532">http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&PartNumber=290-532</A>

The Eminence tweeter has a recommended crossover frequency of 3,500 Hz and an SPL of 105 dB. I am planning on adding an adjustable L-pad to the tweeter to allow me to adjust the tweeter level for the room response.

WinISD suggests that these woofers require a sealed closure of 147 l for optimum response, but decreasing the size has very little affect on the predicted response. For this project, I am planning either a 32 l sealed cabinet or possibly an OB design. The low end will be covered by two 12” Eminence woofers in their own cabinets.

Questions to the board:
Does my project sound feasible?
Would you build these OB or sealed?
What crossover frequency would you use?
What order crossover?

Thanks to all that take the time to reply.

> Does my project sound feasible?

Sounds OK.

> Would you build these OB or sealed?

Sealed.

> What crossover frequency would you use?

3500Hz. I would use the Eminence suggested Xover for the tweeter.

> What order crossover?

Just filter out that rise in the midbass.
