I had planned on leaving my RA-8's in unfinished mdf since they will be recessed into an entertainment nook in my family room. But with all of those black drivers it seems it needs to have a black finish.

That being said, would it look ridiculous to wrap the whole speaker in black ash vinyl? Or is it more appropriate to paint the baffle and wrap the rest of the cabinet?

Using spray paint:
1- Elmer's glue the end-grain, sand lightly. This is to get a good surface to paint, and so it seals the end-grain to not absorb the paint.
2- apply automotive high-build primer, sand to smooth.
3- apply first 2-3 coats of black
4- apply either clear-coat or black color-clear for a couple coats to even out the thicknesses.
5- more black, to your taste.
6- clear coat or spray-polyurethane or brush-on poly. Brush-on poly on paint looks really nice, but I get good results with all three.

And I suppose you want me to do the whole thing right? Not just the baffles?

You know these things are 65"H x 8"w x 14"d. I am gonna have one sore finger!
