My right arm hurts and it is starting to hurt worse. I noticed this first about 3 months ago but had not really paid attention to thinking I might have slept on it wrong. How am I supposed to build speaker when my arm hurts--especially my right one. It used to hurt only when I woke up but now it's bugging me all day long. I read up on some side effects of Zocor--my cholesterol medicine. Seems these statins have some effects that the pharmeceutical companies did not reveal. Some have had severe muscle deterioation to the point of not being able to cover themselves with sheets. Memory loss, fatigue and more. I noticed fatigue about a year ago but attributed it to old age. Then memory problems started--I would make coffee and forget to turn it on, forget where I placed something, forget where I'm going etc. So I have fatigue, memory loss/forgetfullness and now my muscles are hurting more. My question to any of you, have you experienced any of this on statins? I met a guy a Iowa last year that said he felt weak all the time with muscle pain and now I'm feeling the same way. I'm thinking these statins are bad news, but wanted to bounce it off any of you who are taking these drugs.

You need a dietary supplement regimen.

1. Multivitamin pill {watch out, many have too much vitamin A}.

2. Vitamin B-50 complex

3. Vitamin C - 500mg - 2000 mg daily

Minerals
1. Magnesium 400 mg - 600 mg daily. Take
aspartate, orotate, glycinate or chelated forms,
don't take oxide or citrate forms. Mostly likely,
you have to buy this online to get the right one.
This will help your muscles.

3. Calcium, 500mg - 1000 mg daily

Antioxidants

1. CoEnzyme Q10 {COQ10} - 200 mg daily.
Expensive supplement. People taking statin
drugs should be taking this supplement as statin
drugs deplete your levels. Doctors won't tell you this.

http://altmedicine.about.com/od/consumerreviewsalerts/a/statins_coq10.htm

2. Alpha Lipoic Acid - 300mg - 600 mg daily.

Amino Acids

1. Acetyl-L-Carnitine - 500 mg daily.
Brain food.

Essential Fatty Acids

1. Two to four grams of fish oil daily, this
is your Omega-3's. Lowers cholesterol if you
take higher doses.

2. If you want some Omega6 to compliment your
Omega3, take Borage oil, about 1 gram daily.

I could add more stuff to this list but it
gets expensive. Need more info, email me.

Do this for six months and you will feel like
you are 20 years old.

I have a friend who used my recipe and the
diabetes was almost reversed, insulin consumption
dropped to 1/4 the intake, 1AC blood scores dropped to almost normal levels. Etc.

Great success story.

If not DIY'ing speakers, I'm DIY'ing the fountain
of youth. :hehe:

Paul, I took Zocor and had the "Really bad" reaction to it, muscle pain, fatigue, and even jaundice. All statins can mess with your liver, and that's why they do a blood test occasionally. You should ask the doc about it ASAP just in case. Arm pain could be 'mouse-itis' from the PC, try shifting to a left-hand mouse and see.

I have been on Lovastatin for a few years now. My LDL cholestrol and triglycerides are the lowest of my life but unfortunately my HDL is also low and my memory is getting worse every day. I was listening to Mahler's "Das Lied von der Erde" on the internet and could not remember the German word for Song until I looked up Mahler. What is even worse is that I sometimes have to think a while to remember my fiancee's name. Luckily I always remember "Sweetheart".

By the way, I have made 4 trips to the Philippines since 2001, recently from November 2005 to April 2006. I will return to live with my fiancee when I can save some more money. How long have you been married to a filipina? Are you going there to live or just vacation?

Hi Ted, we are in the process of selling the house and contemplating staying 6mo. in the Philippines and 6mo stateside. I may buy a small house near Fort Hood for my son to stay in and watch while we're in the Philippines. We can build a house over there pretty cheap and the cost of living is a lot less. You can live off $400 a month there pretty nicely if you have a house already. To build a 1500sf house out of adobe over there cost's about $30,000 (it used to be a lot cheaper oh well darnit). I've been married for over 25 years, I can't remember sorry.

I too have noticed my memory starting to go as of late. Never had this problem before the Zocor. Always feel tired and now the muscle pain. I think I'll stop taking it and do the vitamin regimine and watch what I eat. I'm going to see if it makes a difference and will let you know.

Let's keep in touch.

I will try the vitamin regimine and taper off on the Zocor and see if some of these side effects disappear. I didn't even know these were side effects because it's not on the literature that comes with the prescription. I found out by searching on the net and see that others have had the same problem. My cholesterol has went down but so have some other things unfortunately. Thanks a bunch and I'll let you know if a few months if the side effects have went away.

Paul,
Make sure you let your Drs. know. They'll probably tell you not to get off the Zocor. But its your body, and don't be afraid to tell them. They do need to know however, and know why so they can adjust and account for the effects of any other medication you might be taking. Also, yes some vitamin supplements have too much vit. A, but its usually in the form of beta-carotene, which is harmless, but make sure that's the case. Too much of vit. A, D, E, or K is toxic to your liver.
Good Health Friend.

Not knocking doctors, as we've all needed them from time to time, but they're mostly trained to fix problems rather than prevent them.

Good luck-health Paul, remember, the human body has an amazing ability to heal & maintain itself if given what it needs.

Atkins Diet

Seriously. Most cholesterol is NOT dietary - it's created when the body stores fat from/processes excess carbohydrates.

And before someone jumps on me, the guy in charge of discovery R&D for a major pharma twisted my arm to try it...

When I was doing photo-shop all day in the Course Ware Development Computer room. My mouse arm would get so sore, that I would have to rest my elbow on a bar stool for support, to reduce the pain. BTW, I don't take statins, I just suffer from chronic pain.

I trust my D.O. (We both had heart probs at the same time, went on many of the same meds) We went over risks & benefits, I read the studies. Documented benefits of these are pretty well established over 20 years in Europe -- including scouring arteries. Controlled studies suggest 1 in 10000 have arm pain attributable to a statin.

When I moved from Zocor to Crestor, a lot of my problems diminished. I now do mine every other day. Last checkup, my levels were at 109.

If you're taking Coreg or Toprol (beta blockers) those are more likely to screw with your mental well being.

Currently on Zocor. Is Crestor a statin too? I've also heard that statins combined with some anti-depressents can cause problems. Just trying to comb through the web of information to figure out which drug is at fault. Sounds like Zocor is the likely culprit. This morning it took me approximately 3 minutes before I could urinate and the stream was weak until I got it started. This scares me as I've never had these problems before.
