Hi all
I might be showing how green I am in all for this kind of stuff but I have to ask. I want to make some speakers. I also want to use an active crossover like the Behringer DCX2496 Ultradrive Pro Digital Crossover. So!
1) Can you use a 7-1 channel amplifier for each set of drivers? Low - mid - high and so no.
2) If the different frequencies need separate ins and outs, is there a way to set it up that is just one master volume control, once each frequency is set.
3) Is there some kind for microphone and frequency sweep software to assist in adjusting an active crossover?
Thanks,
Shane.

Yes.. if the receiver has seperate in and outputs for each channel. Most do not.

Yes, if the reciever has a pre/main coupler jumper. You remove the jumper and send the pre output to the crossover input. Then each crossover output will go back to the respective amp channel input you plan to use on the reciever. The unit's main volume control it then the whole system control.

The right thing to use is something like Smaart http://www.eaw.com/products/software/index.html. You don't need measuring equipment to get started however, start with the manufacturer's recommended crossover fequencies and slopes for the drivers, and tweak from there. Some PA processors also include test software to time/phase align the individual outputs using a
common measurement mic.

Shane, read this article (link) on bi-amping. It will explain the requirements for using any active crossover. Some of the more expensive 7.1 receivers have pre-outs for 7 channels, but not 7 amp channels. I use a Yamaha intergrated amp with pre-outs & main-in, plus an additional Yamaha amp on a 2-way active XO system. If your building 3-way speakers, then you'll need 3 amps with the Behringer. You could use 2 amps on a 3-way, but you would have to put a passive xo on the tweeter at say 3khz or higher depending on the tweeter. Going active can get expensive.
