Greetings Everyone, Has anyone done an impedence plot on the Dayton Aluminum-Silk MTM speakers? Peaks, dips or any really odd phase shifts?
Good listening

Sure thing

The reason I am asking is that I just completed the build of another tube amp (now have 3 tube ones and several SS) and while the amp tests fine on the bench with a scope and resistive load, it does not work well with the MTMs. Thanks, Bruce

How much RMS power does the amp put out? Remember that an MTM like what you are talking about is probably pretty inefficient. Sensitivity for that speaker is just 87.5dB. If your amp is in the 5-10 watt range, it is most likely under a strain.
But of course I don't know anything about your amp. The older Bogen I use is a 30watt per channel RMS into 8ohm load, and it can handle less sensitive drivers, but I still try to couple it with something like my Father's old Wharfdales that are very sensitive.

> Hi, You are correct on the MTM's being only about 87 dbw. I use various amps (up to 200 wpc). I have a very quiet listening area and even my modded K-12 with only about 5 wpc drives them to sufficient levels. The bottom end is handled by a pair of 15 inch subs in 205 ltr vented boxes (separate electronic crossover and amps) so there is less demand on the main amp. I did however find the problem with the set up tonight. One of the changes I made in the new K-8 amp was to use a CCS in the outputs. For whatever reason it didn't behave well. No clue, but a fixed resistor in its place cleaned up the problem I was having. Thanks for your input, if you care to hear the gruesome details email me at gofar99@hotmail.com and I'll be glad to explain. Thanks,
Bruce
