Hello,
I'm building crossovers and just discovered the iron-core inductors won't fit in the project box. Is there anything wrong with just mounting them to the cabinet wall? Should they be covered?
Thanks.

I've seen xovers hot-glued to the outside rear-wall before. It's not a big issue.

Thanks, Wolf...maybe I wasn't so clear. All the xover components EXCEPT the big inductors fit in the box, so it would be only the inductors mounted to the rear wall. The rest of the parts will fit in the box and I was planning to mount the box and inductors side by side, possibly mount the inductors on the outside wall of the box?

That will be fine.

Just to try to further clarify, when I said "box"
I meant the PROJECT box which will be INSIDE the speaker cabinet. So the plan is to mount the project box and inductors on the INSIDE wall of the cab,
with the inductors outside the project box.
Still OK?

Yes, the inductors can be mounted anywhere. The only issue with inductors is electromagnetic interference. So don't place them too close to a driver. Also, if your project box is made of a magnetic material then this will affect all of the inductors in or out of the project box.

Most of us don't even box our xovers. Here's an example. It's mounted to the terminal plate, not covered. If you are concerned with heat, don't fret. Inductors aren't the hot part. Resistors *can* get hot, but don't normally.

When I have to split up a crossover this way, I like to mount the heaviest parts (ie. big coils) on the floor of the cabinet. Less likely to work loose and rattle around that way.
