i have calculated the box size for a subwoofer as 1.2 cubic ft. with a port 3" diameter and 12" in length. the question is.....it is a dual voice coil subwoofer. if i parallel the coils, only run one of them, or series them, does it change the parameters of the situation enough to merit changing the box or port size?? is it that critical?? thank you for any input, jerry

I believe that with dual coil drivers the published parameters are for parallel wiring, and series or single coil wiring have different parameters. Perhaps someone can chime in and explain which parameters change. Tom Daugherty

woops.....i guess that ends my project. i was going to put the woof in a proper box and change the wiring around to see if i liked it best with one coil, parallel or series. if the box size changes i think i will go with a straight woofer no dual vc. thanks for your help! jerry

The box won't change size unless you leave one coil open.

If you want to drive both coils, either series or parallel, it won't change the box size. If you drive only one coil, then you must short out the other one if not driving it. The only time box size will be affected is if you leave the unused coil open.

Is your 1.2 cf box already built? What driver(s) were you considering?

sounds goofy....but a buddy of mine gave me a couple of subwoofers. automotive ones. but the magnets and frames are just huge. the model is XSITE1050 DUAL dual 4 ohm voice coils. have to series them to make the amp happy....nice solid looking speakers and best of all.....THEY ARE FREE! so i bgt one of the 300 wt bash amps and decided to put one in a box and see how it sounded in home. gonna try and run it with a smaller set of spks more or less just to ck it out. it looks like it will work just fine in that box, about 3db dwn at about 28 hz i think. i just wonder how GOOD OR BAD it will sound! any thoughts on automotive subwoofers?? just speakers, right?? if i don't like it i am going to buy one of the rs 8" subs to run in this little set up. nice f3, nice small box.
