Were your Alyssums built out of 1/2" inch stock or 3/4'?

Nominal 3/4", actually 18mm (.708"). I probably could have gotten away with 1/2" Baltic birch, but I didn't want to take any chances. Also, I had very limited time to build these, so I couldn't get fancy with the bracing. Here's a shot of the cabinet with the back off, before I flushed up and rounded over the inside ends of the ports.

The downside is that they weigh a lot, though nowhere near as much as if I'd used MDF. If I had it to do over again, I'd have built in wheels on the lower back edge. On the other hand, I had three strapping teenagers as roadies. :-)
