I would like to know the benefits of both, also would it hurt to have it rear firing?

Downward and rear firing will help filter out above bandwidth harmonic distortion created by the movement of the cone. There is some concern that the load of a downward facing cone's weight on the suspension can over time lead to non-linear response. There's no particular benefit to forward firing, as dispersion within the subwoofer bandwidth is omni-directional.

Not much into down-firing, but there are lots of advantages to playin' around with the room you're puttin' the sub in. Don't get caught up in being too rigid about placement... your ears can balance the sound you're looking for better than simulations. Playin' around with the room can produce several SURPRISES!!

I have a downfiring ACI SATURN with a SV-12 woofer ...which maybe(?) you can still source thru MENISCUS... great sound in a 2 cubic foot box.

if you forward fire a pair that act as stands in a home theater they will play great 2 channel bass. see thumb nails of 1 pair of nht1259's
