When I downloaded Frequency Response Modeler, 2 files were extracted into the destination folder, FRM 2.0 exe and fftdll.dll. Can someone tell me what I am supposed to do with the fftdll file extension.
Also, Is there a tutorial for this program?

From Jeff's website:

"A small .dll file has been included with this program named "fttdll.dll". This file is needed to quickly perform the inverse Fast Fourier Transform for the minimum phase extraction. The file needs to be placed in your default Excel folder. This is the folder that Excel automatically goes to if you click on "File Open". If the dll file is not present in that folder it will still perform the phase extraction but it will be much slower."

Can't help with the user manual.

Thanks Hal. The user guide is on a tab inside the Frequency Response Modeler.

Thanks for your replies, but I am not sure what "default Excel folder" is.
Could you give me a clue as to what the folder might be called and where I might find it on my computer?
I did find the user guide! Thanks Jeff!

But the statement Hal posted did tell you. Here it is again:

Of course I don't know your computer, but on mine its call "Excel" on one computers and "Excel files" on another. However, just do what it says above and while in Excel click File Open and see where it looks. It's really very simple.

On my computer it is: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11. On your computer it could be the same.

Either way, anyone should be able to click "file" "open" in Excel and see what it is.

Wouldn't that be in your My Documents folder?

Yes, but you can set up Excel, or any other office program for that matter, to look to any folder you choose. I don't like to dump everything into "my documents". I've got about 6 GB of excel files so they have their own master directory. None of this really matters though, the program will run fine either way, or you can copy the dll file into several directories if you wish.

I figured anyone who didn't know what folder it was wouldn't have changed the default. It is a lot easier to say drag it to your My Documents folder and get it right 95% of the time.

OK. I hate to belabor this, but if someone can't click on File and Open in Excel and see where it's looking to then they probably aren't ready to use the program in the first place. I just don't think it would be very responsible of me to tell someone to drop it into a folder that may or may not be correct when there is a very simple way of finding the correct one.

Actually, you don't have to do anything with it. When you perform the minimum phase extraction, you will get an "error" message of the file missing. Without the dll, it will still perform the calculation, only slower. Depending on the computer, it's not real long. On my AMD2600 (5+ years old) it takes less than 10 seconds. Or IOW, about the time it takes to glance at the TV, grap and sip the beer and put it back down.

Yes, that's correct. That's why I said things would run fine without it.
