I have a Dayton DC-200 8 inch woofer with an Audax 1 inch dome tweeter in a .75 sealed box . I'm going to put together a xover from PE of 2 coils and 2 caps in a 2nd order Linkwitz config.
Does anyone have any tips they might be willing to share that might make this crossover any better with this setup?.
I'm putting this together for my sons stereo room .
I did a forum search for this woofer but nothing came up

thanks in advance for any suggestions

Kevin

Here's the info using the "Silkie" tweeter. BTW, that 8" likes 2 cu ft ported.

Build some Silver Als, using the DA175 and Silke tweeter.

Or, if you're really strapped for cash, consider the China Syndrome.

If you want a proven XO design for that woofer, there's one using the silkie DC28 tweeter.

Or the Noah 8's in the Project Showcase:

The Noah's have a simpler XO. You could try that with the Audax, but there are enough differences between those tweeters that could lead to a less-than-satisfactory sound quality.

Just using textbook 2nd order formulas are not adequate...there are too many variables regarding an individual drivers characteristics to just use the nominal impedance and the cross-frequency you desire. With the first diagram I posted, you don't have to get the values exact...within about 10% will be fine. Without some form of measured data, you won't know if you're crossing the woofer too high (which will sound like poo) or the tweeter too low. You might get lucky, but those chances are slim. I made a pair of speakers from a design that I found here that uses the TM025 tweeter (if that's the one you have):

http://www.lonesaguaro.com/speakers/Topaz/Topaz.htm

You can see that there's some small issues with that tweeter that Lou had to deal with, but I made the small sealed version for a friend and they are outstanding. I wanted to keep them for myself! No easy answers when it comes to implementing the XO, but you could try the LR 2nd order and see how it sounds. I'm not an expert with XO design, so this is just my experiences with trying to get textbook formulas to work (which they never did) and the advice I received from the guys here. YMMV, and your result could sound just fine. Being DIY, it can be fun to experiment, listen to the end result and tweak/adjust and see if you can make improvements.

I already have a pair of the Dayton ND28f6 Neo tweeters laying around . Could they be used in this crossover plan for the Dayton eights ? They are 6 ohm .
It would save some money if I didn't have to buy the Silkies

Ummm... I wouldn't really recommend it. However, I was tinkering around with the DC200 + DC28 2-way lately, so I'll try plugging the ND28f. I didn't put the design up because I've had too many other things going on. I also would like to actually BUILD this design. But I'd like a nice cabinet design to go with.

I would probably build this as a floorstanding 2-way (a la Totem's "column" floorstanding speaker designs). But if anyone else would like to see it in another design, I'd be willing to give it a shot. Keep in mind, however, that this woofer will need at least 1.0 cubic feet to get a good vented response (F3 ~ 30 Hz) ... however, making the cabinet a little deeper or larger sweetens the deal. You can get an F3 in the MID 20's!!

No, you'd need a re-design of the XO. Paul C. was working on a smaller-parts-count XO for the 8" woofer and the DC28, or there's the Noah's 8's, which have a simpler XO in a larger vented box:

I've built Dave Tenney's D8 TM's and they are a great sounding speaker, but I haven't heard the Noah's. Oh, I see that Paul might be able to work something up using those ND28's, so you could wait and see what he says.

Hey Paul, I have a nice TL design for that woofer that Paul K. did for me, if you like I'll send it to you. I think its maybe 10x30x12 with an F3 of 31Hz. Add a little space underneath to get the tweeter height up and it could be nice, I was thinking of pairing the Vifa DQ25 for a budget system for my daughters room. Do you think the DC200 and DQ25 would mate well?
