View Full Version : Ashly SRA-120 Power Amp
Has anyone used the Ashly SRA-120 power amplifier? Its a low power, 1RU unit with decent specs and there are some for sale on eBay for a little over $100. Is it any good?
I am looking to replace the Furman SP20A from my entertainment rack to free it back up for garage use. The one thing I do not like about the Furman is that it only has a speaker on/off switch instead of a delayed turn on relay so if you don't remember to flip the switch when turning the unit on/off, you get a nasty pop from your speakers; not a problem for me but my wife never remembers.

I can't speak for that unit in particular, but I've worked with two different high power Ashly amps in the past and they are built like a tank. I used to use one to power a pair of DVC 4 ohm 15" TC sounds subs each wired in parallel to be a 2 ohm load and the Ashly had no problems at all driving them to "foundation shaking" levels (I don't recall the model offhand but it was rated at 675 watts per channel into 2 ohms). They are based in Rochester NY and my brother, who used to do a lot of pro-sound work setting up bands in college, swears by them. I don't know if they are still made in the US but the ones I've worked with have been excellent.
Roman,
Thanks for the input. Bought one on eBay today and I'll provide an update on how it performs in a couple of weeks. Ashly seems to make some pretty solid electronics although their stuff seems to be a bit on the pricey side when new.

The price probably reflects the fact that they are made in the USA and are extremely well engineered as well as durable. They provide more specs than most manufacturers. I think you'll be happy with yours.

This is a very nice little amp for $129 used; the condition of this unit was immaculate. I think the seller on eBay has 8 more like it last time I checked. It is very quiet and has plenty of dynamic range to drive my stereo-corner speaker (4-ohm RS-125). This was a much better buy than the EV 7100 Amp above it which was well used/abused.
The Rane EQ was in nice condition as well, except for the bent rack mount ear, and is working like a champ. Its really nice to pick up some good used gear, for a fraction of the new price.
