I am setting up an overflow room for our church for when the main sanctuary fills up. For sound I will be installing six Atlas FAP62T Ceiling speakers and one FAPSUB subwoofer. The plan is to tap the speakers on the 32w tap and the sub on the 60 w tap. The sound mix will be pulled from one of the Aux sends on the main mixer in the sanctuary and fed into a Samson SZ1360 amp. The amp does not have a variable output, so my question is how can I adjust the overall level in the room? Would I need to install a 70v attenuator to be used to adjust the level? If so, would I need an attenuator capable of handling the total wattage of the speakers (252 watts)?

You are correct that you would need an autoformer rated at the total wattage of the tapped speakers if your intention was to control them all with a single autoformer. To my knowledge, nothing exists that even comes close to that power rating in the world of 70v distributed sound.
Why not make it easy on yourself and simply use the aux send level adjust on the console to set the level going to the amp. That's what it's there for!! ;)

I agree with using the Aux Send on the main board. The only problem is that it will be on a different floor and 150' down the hall. I am looking for a way to adjust the level locally. I am fairly new to the 70v world, so I might be trying to do something that isn't possible.

Assuming the aux send from the console is unbalanced, (and I'm imagining it is) why not make yourself a simple variable attenuator box with a single potentiometer right before the input to the Samson?

That's what I was looking at as a possibility. Assuming that the aux send is indeed unbalanced, is there an off the shelf part that will do the job, or will I have to create one? In case you can't tell, I am getting to the upper limits of my knowledge.

Something like this . . .
It doesn't get much more basic! :)
