Well, it's done and sounds pretty good. Tomorrow it goes into it's intended location - the bedroom. I underestimated this thing, there is no audible noise at 20 Hz sinewave until ~15 mm of excursion or better. Needs a bigger amp than the AudioSource.

Here's a couple of pictures.

Damn, that looks good.

Any more of those drivers available? :-)

Lots of sawdust! Belt sander to flush up all **** joints. To prep the surface, I used the random orbital sander starting with 80 grit running to 220 grit. I used two entire cans of red primer, which after it cured I quick sanded with 220 grit on the RO. Sprayed the heck out of it with the rustoleum spray bomb.

If I still like the finish later, I'll keep it as is. Otherwise, I'll pull the driver, amp and stuffing to wet sand the finish and clear coat it with something.

I really like the color. BrownBedroomBass. Very cool.

Very nice finish,

Maybe you had those spray cans sitting on the side(I don't know), but if you were to buy those 3 cans of primer and that finishing coat color paint can(s), how much would they have cost you? I'm not a good spray can painter and some I hear spent >$20 to paint their encloser, so I was wondering if veneer would be a better choice

The two cans of primer and the three cans of color cost me $12.50, clearance price at Menards.

I am not a huge fan, generally, of speakers finished in veneer/real wood. This is, of course, just a preference thing as I have seen some designs that utilize veneers to great effect.

Veneering can quickly get expensive the first few times you do it. I am sure that almost every DIYer has some stories to tell regarding failed veneer attempts.

Another reason I like painting over wood grain finish is in the future if I don't like it I pull the driver, amp and stuffing and paint it a different color.

It's an aluminum 12" driver used in a variety of Infinity products over the last decade.

I'm a newbie and just came on board as a subwoofer DIY'r and this is the second/third sub that I've read that the builder used Rustoleum paint. All of them looked Great, is Rustoleum paint the paint of choice for a nice finish?

Cheap and a wide variety of colors and (to me) seems more durable than most other spray bombs.
