Any ideas on how to replace some speakers in a very old Gibson amp, rated at like 16W? A 10 in. and a 12in. are in it currently.

There are many more speakers I have found as well...

There are lots of companies that make replacement speakers for guitar amps. Here are a few worth checking into:

http://www.tedweber.com/
http://www.scumbackspeakers.com/
http://avatarspeakers.com/

Parts Express carries Eminence and Celestion replacement speakers as well.

I'm guessing that for your amp you'll probably want to look for a "vintage" type speaker - probably something along the lines of the Celestion "Greenbacks" or "Vintage 30". Weber speakers are popular for vintage tone, and their prices are pretty good (probably the best you'll find on AlNiCo speakers).

Speakers are the easiest thing to swap in a guitar amp.

Unless you're a seasoned player, you may not be able to tell the difference between the "voices" of the MI speakers available. Speakers are also like seasoning used for cooking. Everyone has his/her own taste & preferences. The decision will be made using your ears.....NOT printed spec's.

More importantly, get the amp to a qualified tube amp technician to check the power supply filter caps, the tubes and to have it properly biased. Vintage tube amps demand and deserve maintenance. Unless the amp is "up to spec" no replacement speaker will sound good. Also have the tech replace the 2 prong power cord with a 3 prong cord. This is a MAJOR safety issue.

Good luck.

Thank you. I've been hopeing to located all of my grandapa's stuff since it was given away at his death. He used to play all of this, and had probably 20 guitars. Marble, Stainless steel, Fender, Gibson..... Electric Banjos, and his own 40-60's style conccert collection of amps/speakers. Use to hold big parties for everyone to come and play, and I've heard stories of him playing in three cords at one time. I myself cannot play, but theese items I would rather have locked in a vault, until I can learn to play, then sold.
