Hi Guys,
About 2 years ago there was an article published by PE that I am looking for but I can't find it. Can you help?
It was a build article about a high fidelity PA speaker system complete with a well designed cross over system.
I can't remember all the details though. If I remember correctly, it was a biamp, 8" MTM system with 15" or 18" subwoofer cabinets.
Can you help me find the article? It was a speaker system meant to get loud while still maintaining a good level of fidelity.
Thank you.
Tony

maybe this?

Not the MCL, the Blue Wonders. They weren't biamp or MTM, though.

AND....the Magna's ARE NOT and should never be used as PA speakers.
Both use drivers that are no longer available.

That is much closer but I'm not too sure. Maybe its been too long for me to remember. Oh well...
Would you guys know of any Hi Fi PA speakers I could use high pass in the 80-200 Hz range? I could build it myself or if it comes as a kit that would be fine too.
I'm looking to put something together for the best of fidelity and high output. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
I will be using a Beringher EP2500 amplifier with electronic Xover to power the mid/high speakers.
Thank you,
Tony
bang-for-buck the selenium 12" PA speakers are great. $50 gets you a good, smooth, efficient and well-built 12 that will do nicely at that HP. If you seriously plan on pushing that amp, I would not bother with HT drivers.

Yes, this definetly isn't for a HT speaker.
Selenium is a good brand but there are many... and paired up with what for treble?

Really high output, I'd agree you need a horn system. But along the lines of what you were originally asking about (8" MTM) I have a design that may be workable. It was originally designed into a switchable bi-ampable/passive 3-way with 15" woofers (midbass, when horn subs are used). The 8" MTM (or TMM) top can be used by itself if you cross over high enough ans use a ported box. The crossover (attached) is optimized for two Beta 8 and a D210 compressin driver mounted on an HM2525 metal horn.

All right. Now we're talking. :D
This is the direction I was looking for.
For confimation:
This is the 8" transducer you refer to?

And for the d210 compression driver and HM2525 horn do you have links? I couldn't find them with a search.
Thank you,
Tony
PS - when you did your development work with this pair, did you publish anything on it?

yup - that's the 8". If a pair of 8's will put out the low mids you're after they'll work quite nicely. About as well as one cheap 12, but can cross higher. It really depends on your definition of "high output" is.
horn = 264-312. I like it better than the one people usually use (264-308).
driver = 264-271. The D220 is an updated D210.
I guess I started working with this combo back 5 years ago. Originally in a 2x12+2x8+1" "top box", but my horn subs just swallowed them. I ended up building all new tops with much higher output stuff - hence, it matters what your definition of high output is. Eventually rebuilt one 2x8 pair as monitors and the other as a new 3-way with 2x15" midbass (similar to the Carvin 3-ways).

What did you do here?

15" midbass?

What did you do here?
4-way, fully horn loaded, conventional array. 110 dB at 100 feet, 120 degree coverage. The number of reflex boxes required to do this is staggering. And the power requirement would blow the transformer off the pole :).
15" midbass?
Woofers that only get down to about 50Hz (but at 99dB/W/m). Normally crossed to the 8's at 600 hz. For some applications, low enough. If not, I have 2x18's and plenty of horns. Those 15's will do way more output in the 80-200 Hz range than 8's or 10's could even think about.

Wow. That is serious stuff.
I imagine the horn enclosures must be large.
Very interesting. Can you post pics?
