In one of my projects, I'm comparing the APT 80 with the X-TEALTH HT-408 both electronically crossed over at 3100Hz [to my midrange horn using a Alpha 6a which sounds best crossed over no higher than 3100Hz]. I know it is just a bit low of a crossover but not by much.

Anyway the X-TEALTH HT-408 sounded much better in this application but with a little less openness. There seemed something wrong with the APT 80 in comparison.

Then tried swapping the negative and positive "backwards" on the APT 80 and it seemed to sound much better than before. Put the mono switch on and both sides sounded much closer to being the same now.

Question:
Has anyone else had to do this with this tweeter or do I need to trace down all my hook ups at the source for a problem.

Thanks in advance for the help.
Great forum here!

It just means that between the crossover topology and driver placement the APT 80 wasn't correctly time/phase aligned. That, or you didn't notice that Eminence compression drivers mark the + lug black and the - lug red.

Thanks Bill.
I found this in very small print "A negative voltage at the red terminal causes a positive pressure at the output device".

So their woofers (Like the Delta Pro 12) have a red terminal that is positive and their CD's have a red terminal that is negative?

I don't know why they reverse code their compression drivers, but it's a safe assumption it dates back decades and was originally done so that with a 2nd/2nd crossover wired with red to + and black to - with all drivers that the HF would be the requisite reverse polarity.

Yes that makes sense.
Thanks Bill,

Happy Father's day to all the fathers out there.
