I signed up for the early buy in and got the Email to purchase a few weeks ago. Haven't bit yet. As far as I'm concerned that is the one to get! Most versatile player out there. Not to mention the audio output is superb. Check out the dedicated stereo out. http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-83/images/Blu-ray-BDP-83_back_hr.jpg
That is a sweet option to separate you stereo mains from your HT!
Hook that stereo output up to the HK 3490 for a great looking/sounding stereo setup! http://www.harman-kardon.cz/harman-kardon-hk3490-1.jpg

I've always been on the fence about the Oppo. If you are into SACD/DVD-A, then the Oppo becomes a very attractive universal player. However, if you are buying it strictly as a blu-ray player, I personally think there are better values out there. The Panasonic BD60/80 would be my recommendation if you don't need the SACD/DVD-A features... at about half the price of the Oppo. The Oppo might have a slight edge on SD DVD upscaling (maybe). My personal opinion is that the Oppo is only a good deal if you are in the market for a universal player. Now that the BD-83 is out, I'm hoping we see a "stripped down" version that's a straight BD transport (i.e. no SACD/DVD-A, no 7.1 analog outs) with great upscaling that they can sell in the $200-250 range to compete with the mass market brands. That's the one I'd get excited about.

A good buddy of mine was a Beta tester for the Oppo BD player. He said there were some initial firmware problems. But Oppo listened to the testers and fixed them. He is using the Oppo and a Mitsubishi projector. I haven't seen the image yet, but he declares its one hell of a machine. And looking at the spec sheet says this will be the best BD player in the land at almost any price point.
EDIT: Back to what jason was saying. My buddy also uses the machine for SACD/DVD-A

I have no doubt that the Oppo is a fantastic machine - they have earned all of the praise they receive. However for a lot of people the BD-83 is overkill. I couldn't justify the $500 price tag, and instead bought a Panasonic BD35 around Christmas time for about $200. I don't do the SACD/DVD-A thing, and I don't even use it as a CD player - I just wanted a blu-ray player. I have no doubt that the Oppo is probably a better DVD up-scaler than my Panny, but for 95% of the performance at 40% of the cost, I'm quite happy with the Panny. Now, if Oppo had a "bare bones" BD player for $50 more than the Panny, I'd have jumped on that in a heart-beat.
If you want some info on the Oppo, there are numberous threads here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=149
