It is amusing that you call some of the setups here crazy. Granted the 4x 15" Dayton Reference subs is highly impressive and makes me very jealous. But the guys over at The Cult of the Infinitely Baffled, and Home Theater Shack have the market on crazy subs as far as I can tell. There are already a few completed Exodus Audio 21" Maelstrom builds over there and a lot of those guys have more sub swept volume in their home theaters than every speaker I build in my whole life put together will be able to compare to. If you want to see some insanity check them out.
This guy has a pretty nice blog about his subs too. :)

My brain is a cookin!!!! I am thinking of something in the line of 2 smallish in size "Danley" engineered type enclosures. I'm thinking two 10's in each enclosure for size sake.
Anyone else have a wife to contend with when it comes to our hobby here? Saying its work related only goes so far....

Crazy as in freakin awesome, just to clarify.
Example: Erich's 10 ten's or whatever size they are. Me wants!!!

Yeah, but my wife is pretty understanding. I mostly keep it in the stereo room and make sure that the sound coming out of the TV in the living room is nice, and we all get along :)

Yeah, and Lunchmoney's sub is awesome. Heard it, love it, and I do not even like subs!!!!!
Anyway, calling out Wolf are we? Dude, you have to post something that you have built, and is worthy. Wolf's designs and builds are proven and approved by all.
I respect your knowledge, and the fact you will take HRTF's into account, but build, detail it, and put it up for all to hack apart.
By the way, you should check out the build thread on Lunch's sub, you will see what I mean when I say "hack it apart" lol .
Heck man, could be like my build and draw NO interest! So bring it!!!

I have a dual Dayton 12" DVC Tuba THT build at home - Bill Fitzmaurice style.
It's horn loaded, with massive size, think 36x36x29.5" (to get through doors)
Powered by EP2500 = 650w rms to each sub.
I haven't tried to max it out....yet.
I don't like the Danley's only for the fact that they are an awkward size. I definitely suggest a dual 12" or 15" for maximum swept volume. the more air that is moved, the better.
