I just finished building a bass guitar cabinet for a friend. Chris Roemer designed the crossover and box parameters for it.

It utilizes the Eminence Kappalite 3015LF woofer and Eminence Alpha-6C midrange (4 ohm version) seen here:

The crossover is 2nd order at 500 hertz with a notch filter to bring the cone breakup on the Alpha into line. The mid is wired reverse polarity.

The box is 4 cubes gross, 3.6 net with two 4" diameter ports that are 6 inches deep. The mid chamber is 6.5" tall by 6.5" wide by 7" deep (internal) and stuffed with fill. The cabinet we built ended up being 34" tall, 20" wide and 13.75" deep (outside diameters) with the baffle inset 3/4".

This thing came out really well. It's deep and extended - plays smooth throughout the whole range from about 50 to 5K at around 97db before dipping off on both ends.

Here's the almost finished product - just needs to be bed-lined.

Thanks for looking,

So, is that thing a 2-man carry then (how much does it weigh)?
Does it kick?
What's the lowest it goes with nominal output?
Would the bassist do it again?

It only weights 56 pounds all said and done. we placed the handles so you can one hand it going down a hallway or up and down stairs etc... just hook the handle and let it rest against your forearm and it's pretty easy to whip around.

It sounds fantastic.. the low notes of the bass are full and solid - something we didn't realize how much of was missing before. He really doesn't play much of the upper registers at the moment but as you run up the neck it stays even and warm sounding which is what he wanted.

I'm not really sure how low it goes, as I don't have any measurement equipment, and we've only put the bass through it - no program material - but it plays as low as is needed without any excessive audible drop off.

The bassist is very pleased, and he still plans on building the second one to go modular. He needs to get a different amplifier, though, as he currently has a fairly low end, low power model that clips long before this cabinet starts to get pushed. He plans on getting a 1000 watt bass head and building the second cabinet with his tax returns. As long as he follows though I'll post a picture of the tower with him standing next to it when we're done. The two boxes will be only a few inches shorter than him and with the amp on top it will be taller than he is - should be an impressive sight!

Thanks for the kind words! I was looking through your thread yesterday and the level of craftsmanship is fantastic so your comment means a lot to me, cheers.
