I have old sony speakers mo. # ss-u700
the 12" woofers pt.#1-503-339-11
I would like to use both 12" woofers and make a subwoofer.
any ideas.

It is probably not worth the time. The sony speakers are likely to have very low excursion capabilities.
If you are going to spend all that time making a box and finishing it, why not spend at least a little bit on a new sub to put in it?
This would be a good start: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-490

if you have the cases the sony speakers were in it would be an easier task. without the boxes it is hard to tell how to design a new box. you would need someone to measure the speaker to design a box. maybe someone has the measurements for the woofer. I will google around and see.

I found this add from 1976
http://www.bonanzle.com/booths/trevers/items/SONY_SSU_STEREO_SPEAKERS_Vintage_1976_AD
it has ssu-2000 ssu-1250 ssu-1050
so you have some very old woofers. how do the surrounds on the cones look. If they are foam they are just about dead and rotted away. If they are cloth the may have life in them.

Yeah, and they're on SALE right now. So is the SA70 plate amp. While the 12"SDVC can handle the SA100 amp, it's capable of 108dB @ 70 watts. Put it in a 3 cf box (19" cube") with a 4" PVC port, and away you go, for $100 (plus box material).
