I dig the Bahama Blue on black. It's nice to see some color variety rather than the typical browns, blacks and whites.

I'm currently in the middle of vented two-way project using the same Silver Flute mid-woofer and would be curious to hear more about the specs on your project, particularly how you went about crossing the the SF. I've already committed to the crossover I came up with in PCD, but it would be interesting to compare.

i bet the vifa/vifa mtm sound very good. how high di you cross these?
always thought the 16ohm would make a simple mtm.

Jerry, you do very nice work! I have two rolls of the buyout vinyl (maple, I think?) in the garage and am contemplating doing something with it. Maybe build a speaker or something :)

Crossed them at 3000Hz/Linkwitz/Riley! They are OK for rock/country music,, but really shine with modern jazz, excellent bass and good midrange. The Vifa tweets speak for themselves....nice! They are an excellent choice for home theater and work well with my 8" sub! Very happy with these MTM's!

Hi John! Got two rolls???? Sounds like a darn good excuse to build something!Maybe a buyout project???

i know you've got some dahlquists around... :)

this is a build with the blue ones and the subs in beech PE vinyl. this baffle will eventually get re-cut to remove one of the subs. two was just overpowering up front, but it was an interesting project. they might also become tower MTM's or MTMW's-- the center channel came out better than the MT's.

This is PE's maple from a few years back. I don't know if it's gone "buyout", or if that's different. But all in all, I am quite pleased with it from 5 feet back.

Image is the same speaker, mirrored. The lefthand side is closer to the real color.

I just wish the edges were cleaner with the vinyl.

I did the "Renu" project with the Beech vinyl. I also have another "Reduction project" in the works... Uses the same woofer as the Renu, and a Peerless of India cone tweeter.

Going old school on it. Wide, recessed baffle. Tweed grill. Diffraction, as they say, be dammed :)

Yeah, I got a few of them... :)

Those look nice! Is that the 6.5" blue? How'd they do? Get measurements on them or wing it? I see PE still has a few, maybe I will buy them.

yeah, that's the one with the plastic shield (lower Fs, higher Vas of the blue 6.5's). i finally broke down and gave up on my mini electret mic and bought the dayton EMM. the TM / TMWW never quite measured as well as i'd hoped (it was wired separately), but the MTM worked great. (a TMW pair with both W's run as parallel subs from one amp seems to be the best compromise). i don't have any photos because it's not currently here, but i'll get a few of it. my measurements probably aren't well-calibrated so the exact levels aren't right, but they're internally consistent with each other. in the next couple weeks i'll write up this one and a couple others now that i have some measurements to back them up -- the RS-150S / vifa bc25sc06 modeled great and measured as designed. best phase tracking of any crossover i've built. i'm also working on a TL cabinet for an RS-150/vifa to reduce inventory of RS-150-4's.

overall though, the blue woofers look good with the beech vinyl, and it's hard to argue for a 6-ohm MTM that gets fairly low sealed and drivers cost all of $29. the crossover wasn't all that complex either, i think a 2nd + zoebel on the woofer and a 3rd + l-pad on the tweeter. but only one or two expensive components. and don't feel bad about jumping into the deep end of the dahlquist pool -- i gambled and got 8 blue and 8 black, and after building the MTM went back for 4 more blue once they got to $9 each. i think both blue ones are almost interchangeable.

I would be interested in seeing some measurements.

(sorry to hijack your thread Jerry)

with the caveat that i'm still calibrating the SPL's, and that these are nominally correct.... couldn't find the WT3 file for the full CC, but the modeled one was pretty close. this should probably move over to the regular techtalk board now, but when i get photos and all i'll post the whole design.

thought i'd go ahead and throw in a few pics of a sub i recently finished, using the PE black textured vinyl. obviously not as good as a more expensive finish, but pretty darn professional looking for $20, and easy as all getout. i apologize in advance for the crappy blackberry camera pics.

couple shots of it in its intended location. pay no attention to my hideous "theater seating". it was freebee couch and it looks just fine with the lights off. :)

yea, you like that? thats 1960's finished basement all the way. in the one picture you can kinda see half of the rooster tile thats inlaid with the rest of the floor. and you should see the half inch knotty pine paneling on the walls. whatever, it's my first house. i was just happy it had a finished basement that would work as a dedicated theater.

Its not like I really forgot it. Like I mentioned before, I was out of time. I finished the last 2 that are listed in a hurry and was not even able to write the things about it I actually wanted to write about.
Seeing as I was still at work and still had some things to do, I couldnt keep my full attention while writing the thread and therefore it was to be expected I forgot multiple projects. You cant blame me for that, hey :P

Also, I was planning of writing Imarion RPG today, but something came up. Ill probably write it tomorrow :P
