More Adventures In Vinyl Laminate

Just finished up a nice 2-way project! Used PE's Oak Vinyl Laminate and it is a very nice looking addition to the Vinyl Collection! Has a nice woodgrain texturing to it and about as close to real Oak as you are going to get! The adhesive on this roll was very good, much better then some of the other vinyl's and the vinyl it's self seemed to be of a much stonger and sturdier quality!

Cab is a ported .82 cu ft. with an F3 of a little over 45Hz. The woofer is Vifa's P17WJ-00 6 1/2" and Daytons 6" Planar! A nice looking & sounding set of speakers!

Cam Flash doesn't do the grills any justice! They are a nice medium burgundy!

Another project just finished in Oak is a MTM using Vifa 4 ohm, 7" buyout and Vifa D27TG-45-06 tweeters! These are really nice woofers and overall a great sounding set of speakers

Looks nice! Tell me, how do you like the planar? I've always wondered about those.

If you are used to dome's, then planar's take abit getting used to, because of their sound dispersion patterns. They are very detailed and transparent as PE's add states! I find them most enjoyable and give your speaker system a new dimension in sound reproduction!

Jerry, I am starting to think vinyl is the only way to fly. I am tired of the sheer amount of work it takes to paint a couple cabinets!
Those look great, and I hope to be in Yankton soon - maybe I can stop by and check them out.

Your right John! I got tired of painting baffles etc.! Looks nice, but it is alot of work! You've inspired me to finish my Lineup R44's with the black ash vinyl!

I may still paint the baffle glossy black for a more hi-tech look to complement the titanium drivers and ribbon tweet. But that's not a lot of real estate to obsess over; in fact its mostly holes.

The Black Ash will look nice and painted baffles should highlight your componets nicely....have fun!:)

I'm of the opinion that woodgrain vinyl only ever looks two-dimensional and...not necessarily 'cheap,' but 'not expensive'. At the same time, a lot of veneered speakers look too caramel-colored, like they belong in a wood-paneled room. I'm finding more and more that I prefer the look of painted speakers over any type of woodgrain, though I've seen some good-looking veneered cabinets with painted and rounded-over front baffles, and I like cabinets done in veneers like birds-eye maple, where there's a grain but it's not necessarily in one direction, and the other features of the veneer cut add three-dimensionality to the effect. I used the teak woodgrain vinyl on my first pair of full-range speakers and was just never impressed with it whenever I went up close enough to the speakers to notice the difference. The speakers above don't look bad in the photos.

Not all of the Vinyl Laminates have the wood grain texturing!! Teak and Beechwood do not have a grain texturing to them! Don't know about the Walnut Vinyl??? The rest all have a wood grain texturing to them and makes them look much more natural! The oak is done very well as is the black ash! Thanks For The Compliment~They Don't Look That Bad......

there's also the silver that might go well with black on some designs. i think Zaph has photos of a good black w/ silver baffle on his site, but you could also reverse it.

Well...with paper-backed veneers at these prices, I don't think I'll be going with a stick-on vinyl laminate in the future unless I want some stick-on faux carbon fiber.
