This is a better pic. The MTM's were at Iowa in 2008.

Looks great! How do you like the TMM over the MTM? Same 15W/8831? I have my baffles cut and drivers mounted :(

Brad,

I will have to get back to you on the preference. I have not listened a bunch yet. But, so far, I would say if I had to pick one and did not have a sub to use, it would be the 2.5 way. I kind of like the dispersion of the MTM and it may be slightly more balanced and may be my preference if I can have a sub. The 2.5 way consists of SS9700 tweeter/15w4531g00 upper woofer/and 15w8531k lower woofer. I ran out of 8831G's, but that is what all 4 MTM woofers are...With the Morel ET338 which is growing on me.

Very interesting... Going to Iowa, eh? Well let's just say I'm very glad my entry is going to be in the "under the price of a bag of dirt" class.

So- the 8531 is the 0.5 woofer? I would guess you are getting about 3dB of BSC with that then. Nice! How's the impedance?

What kind of speaker cable is that, Jake?

Hey Wolf,

You probably know, but although Madisound doesn't have the uncoated 8531K listed on the website, they do (or did...they may not be restocking them) have them and yes it is the .5 woofer. Also, as usual Rick Craig of Selah Audio did the crossover and he said it is a rather consistent 4 ohm load. However, the amp does seem to get hotter running these than the MTMs at similar volumes. So, it seems to be a little bit of a tougher load.

Xavier,

That is Alpha-Core MI2 solid copper wire... I really like it. All the interconnects are AlphaCore as well.

Those stands were built exclusively for the MTMs. They are too high for the 2.5 ways. I do have oak stands for the 2.5 ways that are the right height, but some walnut/maple ones will be made.

Actually, there is a striped sub in the works...:D

Very nice Jake! :)

Jim,

Were you saying very nice to the speakers or to the fact that I finally broke through my technological ineptitude and figured out how to post pics ?

Hi Jake,

I was commenting on your VERY pretty speakers and your craftsmanship. The picture thing is just an evolution of technology absorbsion. :D

I MIGHT have something at Iowa if I ever get time to build cabinets. It's not looking very good at the moment. They may have to debut in 2011.

Brad, I think it is official. I like the TMM 2.5 way. This speaker has amazing bass. Of course I did a couple things differently. The MTM is rear ported, the 2.5 way is front ported and, the MTM is MDF while the 2.5 way is Baltic Birch Plywood which is WAY better to work with....but 3 times the price.

Very impressive woodwork but I don't care for the visual design- well executed though! Too busy for my taste.

Maybe not for everyone, but perhaps you have to see them in person; to me they seem to go very well with their native environment (especially the MTMs in post 14)

BTW - I'm guessing there are no cats in this house, and that its not in California - the stands might be a little narrow for that, no? :)

No, they certainly aren't for everyone :). No, no animals in the house and the stands are plenty stable. Why does it matter if they are in California or not :)?

Since these are encapsulated in solid wood, moisture stability is very important. The MTM's when kept a year in a half in my parent's basement (carpeted room), never cracked. They cracked in one spot at my apartment (hardwood floors) in late November and have not cracked since I moved them back. I am not a big veneer fan though.

Because when the fault lines are knockin', this state's a rockin'!

Could also be the fact that CA has ruled declawing cats to be inhumane.

Cat-scratching post and all that...but you're answer is probably the right one.
Later,

My speakers are one of the reason I don't have cats. The ScanSpeaks look especially nice and I'm sure sound just as nice.
