View Full Version : BRAPTOR Bravox TMWW 3 Way
Finally got a decent crossover design for my 3 way based on the Bravox 6.5 "subs". Don't know how many of you are sitting on these, but this would be a veddy nice design for them. Click here for BRAPTOR (http://www.lonesaguaro.com/speakers/Buyout/BravoxTower.html)write up. If anybody has questions, email me.

i have 3 of them. was going to build a sub tower out of them but i have changed my mind so they are up for grabs. they all work and look good. no dings dents or cracks.

Lou, have you had a chance to do any extended listening on these yet? I hope I didn't lead you astray convincing you to buy those woofers!
It's still in the 100's here. And the start of a new school term, and I have a boatload of paying work:rolleyes:... yada, yada... So I only have the one prototype finished. The other box is still in pieces. 2BHonest I'm quite happy with the bass they produce, but not overwhelmed. I deliberately downsized the box, so that's a contributor.
I could get more BSC & punch out of them, but the impedance drops down around 2 ohms at 300-500. It's always an issue with 3ways & parallel Xovers. Or I could add another $50 worth of Xover parts. Up near a wall, I think they would suit even the death metal crowd. The woofers will definitely take all the watts I have to throw at them. I also think they'll pick up a bit more as they break in. (If anybody wants more bass, most amps come with a bass boost! I wouldn't be afraid to use it on these)
So I'm happy. $17 for two woofers, $22 for the mid, $10 for the tweeter, maybe $30 in crossover parts each. A pair of substantial, small footprint 3 ways for less than $200! I'd say "such a deal!" (Maybe not a bargain by your standards though! ;))

haha I guess I am getting a reputation for being "cheap" lol. Glad you like them so far, and I understand earning the $$$ takes precedent over spending it.
In my modeling and testing with those, I had the same problems of impedance drooping in the midbass/lower midrange as well.

Just heard the prototype today (single channel.)
Really nice!! The bass is fantastic!! Anybody who got some of these woofers scored big time! The midrange is equally nice. I don't think Lou will mind if I admit that I'm less enamored with the tweeter. While Lou's implementation of it doesn't do anything wrong per se, it just suffers in comparison to the bass and midrange. I think Lou feels the same way, but the goal of this design was to be a budget buster, and he hit a home run on that front. What's hard to tell from the picture is the lovely dimensions of the box. Very very nicely done, Lou!

After reading Lou's write up on these, I would make a bet that these would be every bit as refined as the Shticks with a different tweeter.
There's only so much you can get from a $10 tweeter. But I do respect Xavier's ear. That Vifa really isn't bad, it's just not jaw dropping. Since the intent was crank the bass to 11 in a small box, these will do it.
I decided to try another tweeter, the Vifa XT25SC90-04 (neo nipple). Minimal changes to the crossover, but a step up in refinement. Looks like I'll keep this as the "final" design. I have updated the write up.

Hey, Lou-
I don't see driver polarities mentioned on the schematic.
I know you said all large-lugs are positive, but in what way are they wired?
Not necessarily asking for myself, but for others...

Heard the revised edition today. To quote my favorite band, "Oh Yeah!"
Very very nice top to bottom.

Good point, these drivers are not consistently marked so I added specific details to the write up.
