I'm looking at the BDP83, for movies and to play CD's.
I don't have surround sound, stereo only.
I know the OPPO has analog stereo outputs, but my preamp (NuForce AVP 16) has a built in DAC and optical and coax digital inputs.
Does the OPPO output stereo 2.0 through the digital outputs when playing CD's, and DVD/BluRay?
I was also wondering about load/unload. Some DVD players are really slow.
Any thoughts?

I'm not sure whether you can get stereo through the digital outputs or not. But here is the owner's manual:
http://download.oppodigital.com/BDP83/BDP-83_English_Manual.pdf
The analog outputs are very, very good. So good, I use them for music instead of the digital outputs.
Load times are fast enough that I don't notice them, except on Bluray where I guess they are 10-15 seconds. Fast enough not to bother me, anyway.

Update: Yes. According to the manual, you can configure the SPIF outputs for stereo only.

Use the coax digital out on the player, unless you have an HDMI input on the AVR. Program the player to output 2-channel regardless of source - it will then downmix any multichannel content into stereo.
I prefer to have the digital to analog conversion to occur at the last possible moment in the audio chain. If you're doing any kind of digital processing or EQ in the AVR (e.g., crossover to sub), you can avoid multiple D-A conversions. If you like DVD-A or SACD, the player will output only 16-bit, 48 kHz, rather than the 24/96 that may be on the disc, so you would have to have the player do the decoding and output analog in that case.
The Oppo player is noted for fast load times on DVD.

Excellent.
I checked out the owner's manual. It's long, but well written which is nice.
Seems like a capable player.
