Ok so today thought I would get out and go to my local Hifi shop and take a listen. I have been wanting to hear the Wilson Sophias' for a while now, ever since Wilson decided to use the new Mid/bass driver. They also had the Sashas' and I listened to them as well.
I have to say the Sophias' sounded really nice but not for $16,000. And the Sophia's midrange was alot better than the Sasha's by quite a bit and they are $27,000. But I have to say I really like the sound of the SB Acoustics driver in both.
That's not the reason I'm writing this though. I took my Fiancee' with me to let her hear what a set of these high dollar speakers sound like. When we left she said "after listening to those I would rather have yours any day". :) I know she's blinded by Love but she's definately not Deaf by it. :D I'm trying my hardest to get her in to liking this hobby but she's just not buying it yet.

Count yourself fortunate, my friend. My girlfriend can't recognize when her car radio has lost all of it's presets. She does however, make up for it with her tolerance of all the stuff I can't recognize! :D

Plus women are smart. She probably figures that if she encourages you to build your own, rather than spend $28k on audio jewelry, you'll have more to spend, when it comes time to buy her that particular round piece of jewelry.

That's a neat story!
My wife can hear the difference between streaming Pandora through our hifi and playing iTunes through it.
What really baffles me is the fact that -- out of our entire circle of friends, we're the only ones who own a stereo. They all play music through computer speakers (at best) and little no-brand iPod docks that look like Frisbees and sound god-awful (at worst). They all have 42" (or larger) TVs, btw. But hifi just isn't a priority, or even in many ways on their radar.

I'm not sure what I'd be listening for between the two, I can't hear any difference between Pandora and a 128 kbps mp3, heck I don't hear any difference between a 128 kbps mp3 and the uncompressed track played directly from a CD. I should probably buy some monster cables :D I'm sure if I had more time to sit and listen in a quiet room I'd start hearing a lot more, I have a hard time with 3 kids always hooting and hollering all the time though. I did start hearing the difference between the speakers I've built and the other speakers we have around the house pretty quickly. Flat response has a sound, and hissy-boomy is something entirely different.
My wife thinks loud sounds good, she'll listen to marginal computer speakers all day and not think twice about switching on the receiver to listen to the same music through speakers that will play much louder and sound much better.

The moral of the story? Ignorance is bliss.
When someone has the opportunity to hear HT through a good system instead of through a glorified PC speaker system, they might just realize that it could be worth it to "upgrade" beyond Bose. It's easy to go and find a TV with great picture, as you can simultaneously watch a wall full, and pick out a picture you like best. Doing the same for speakers is a much more intensive effort, and takes a lot more time.
As for the OP and the $28,000 demonstration. WAY TO GO!!!
Now, you can justify building your dream setup for $1000 and she'll think you're saving enough to buy a car!!!
