Hi there,

I bought a tx-sr600 a while ago and i'm generaly happy with it. the problems that i have though, is that my 2 main speakers (custom builds that had over the top bass to me be for) now have almost no bass at all coming through them. is there anything that i can do that would get more out of them. i would'd be against doing new speakers if i had to... but tight on cash so better to try and fix these

you say they used to have better bass? were they in a different room? how are they situated? up against a wall? i have the same avr and have plenty of bass. tell us about the speakers.

Have you set your L/R front speakers to "large"?

1 is in the same position, and the other was moved, the one that was moved is in the left corner of the room, and the right is against a closet door about 2 ft from the right wall (so back but not against the side) i inherited them a while ago so i have no idea on absolute specs, but they used to sound better then my Altec Lansing sub, now they sound like a bad bookshelf speaker (with bass at least)

yes i have my l/r at large, and also my custom center at large, which has even less bass (that was 10inch woofer and 3 midranges)

what if you turn your sub off? do you still have enough bass to lets say hear a bass guitar line clearly?

Make sure you have your crossover turned off to your mains, and that you've selected "no subwoofer" in the speaker setup menu.

1. how do you get to that menu, i only have used the face controls of the unit, do i need to hook up to tv, and then i'l like to run with the subwofer but not completaly because it does't sound as good that way

i have full 6.1, i just would like to have bass drums and such come out of mains

It's menu 2-2 Speaker Setup on the Onkyo's display. I never navigate that way. Guess I'm spoiled. :) The manual should tell you how to drill in to it; Check out page 72.

I'm not familiar with the SR600, but I recently bought an Onkyo TX-SR707, and when I first listened to music with it, there was almost no bass. I was pretty disappointed. I then learned about all of the listening modes, and the crossover frequency setting. Does your SR600 have a "Pure Audio" mode (My Onkyo has a specific button for it on the front faceplate)? This mode turns off all processing and unused power supplies (even the display is turned off), and just routes all of the frequencies to the main speakers (in music mode). That's what I listen to now, and the bass is great.

Here is a direct link to the user manual for both the tx-sr600 and tx-sr700 models - it should help you navigate the menus http://www.ch.onkyo.com/files.download/tx-sr700_manual_e.pdf (http://www.ch.onkyo.com/files.download/tx-sr700_manual_e.pdf)

no it does't. is that the problem, not enough power going to the speakers? with my old recievers they where only getting 40watts max, so i'm not sure if that could be it....

What about a speaker wire hooked up wrong, cancellation? Do you have pos. to pos. neg. to neg.? Could it be that simple?

i'm using moster cable... i have the side with writing on it as neg and other as pos, so it would be hard to be wrong....

I figured it was a long shot but sometimes it's the simple things you over look.
