HELLO EVERYONE FINALY SIGNED UP ON THE FORUM, BEEN LERKING AROUND FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW. I PURCHASED THE Dayton T1503K 15" Titanic Mk III Subwoofer Kit ABOUT A MONTH AGO NOW AND IT JUST ISN'T WHAT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. (DON'T GET ME WRONG ITS LOUD BUT NOT QUITE WHAT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE.) I CURRENTLY HAVE A 6.1 SETUP GOING. I HAVE A PIONEER ELITE SC27 FOR A RECIEVER. MY FRONT L/R ARE DEF TECH BP7004, MY FRONT AND REAR CENTER CHANNELS ARE DEF TECH C/L/R 2300 AND MY SURRONDS ARE BP 1.2X. I'M THINKING THAT I NEED TO MAKE MY OWN PORTED BOX AND I WAS HOPING YOU GUYS COULD HELP ME COME UP WITH WHAT IS GOING TO PRODUCE THE BEST/MOST BASS. MY USE IS 99% HOME THEATER AND 1% MUSIC. ANY AND ALL IDEAS WOULD BE GREAT. SIZE ISN'T TOO LIMITED WITHIN REASON.
THANK-YOU IN ADVANCE,
LUKE

Try WinISD or Unibox and run the numbers. It can design a ported box or sealed using the T/S parameters. Probably be a better cabinet than what the kit came with. What's the original box size, 3 ft3?. If that's the kit enclosure size, I would imagine that you could get better performance with a larger and/or ported alignment.

I've used WinISD to design cabinets for quite a few subwoofers with excellent results, both with sealed and ported designs. If you have any questions or doubt about any of the info you're getting, or the functions of the programs, just ask.

Hey thanx for the advice I haven't used win isd yet but i have read up on it. I was hoping that someone who had purchased this and built a box could tell me about what they did, how they like it and what they would do different. What would be the ideal frequency to tune it to?

Congrats on turning off the capslock ;)
What are your box building skills like?

I just modeled this in winISD. looks like the box is a little small for that driver. (although I didn't account for stuffing.) Going with a 8.5cf ported box tuned to 20hz will give you more base. The model attached shows the difference between the two. Please note that this is just one idea. And I used 800watts in this model - the thermal limit of the driver.

Yeah I sent that from my phone and I didn't realize it until it was all typed and I didn't want to re-type it, I didn't think it would be worth someones time to even comment on.;) I have a good amount of wood working skills.

Thank-you this was the kind of advice I was looking for. That is a slot port correct? Would putting stuffing in my current box make a big diff.? I did put the foam that came with the kit in. Also adding db to the lower end with the amps eq would help to bring up the lower end and flatten it out correct? Any tips for adjusting the amps eq would be great.
Thanx for all the responses,
Luke

Yes, a slot port. Stuffing is used to fine tune the box. not a big diff. (I think I read somewhere about 10% max.)
As for EQ try freq= 20hz q=2 gain=6db. This will give you more of the sound of a larger ported box. But not the spl. You will be x-max limited at about half power. I added another pic that might help. This is different from the first because I added filters. Subsonic at 20hz (2nd order) and lowpass at 50hz (4th order). I changed the ported box size also.
Please note that the boosted sim has less db through most of the range. This is do to lower power. It will sound bad if you try to crank it.
And normally eq is used to tame room modes. Not as a base boost.
If you do want to build a new box - figure out how big you want it. (Or wife will allow.)
