I'm trying to piece the last bits for my Sure amp build that I may start tinkering with over the Christmas break.

Sure recommends a 50k audio taper pot for a volume control according to their PDF for the unit.

I try to always buy from PE when possible, but I don't really see any good candidates on PE's site.

I saw this on Mouser and was wondering if it's a good fit for this use.

It looks kind of on the cheap side to me, it there a site where you can get higher quality pots and maybe even knobs?

This is the amp design I'm contemplating for this.

Is that where the amp's 'magic-smoke' really comes from??:D

I didn't think you had to install it though, I thought it came with the smoke inside already.

It's not as sexy as an alps blue velvet pot, but PE offers this one:

It took me a few seconds to get the 'smoke' reference. :) I really had no idea what 'inside joke' I missed this time. That's what I get for trying to be cool and use a shortened version of a electronic term.

Should have learned from my newspaper days not to shorten some things...
Note to self from 12 years ago: Never try to abbreviate the Assembly of God Church in any way! :) I'm just happy I never ended up on Leno's funny headlines.

Phew.

That's nice looking, I wouldn't mind springing for one of those. I think this is the exact one I'd need:

They don't look like solder terminals, though. Any ideas on if soldering to them is okay?

Thanks for that link, I wonder why I didn't see it when I searched? I got a few but not that many, Hmmmm.

I'll have to ask my wife which I'm allowed to purchase :o

Thanks again

Just missed your post.

Looks to be a volume control thing, but the rest of the explanation I'm a little hazy on?

What's this mean?
"Two interfaces are reserved allowing users to install 3mm LEDs for better visual effect or as the indicators of amplifiers with housing. A 4-pin socket allows users to connect LED clusters creating fantastic breathing effect."

It sounds cool, but I just don't know what it would look like. This doesn't produce a spectrum analyzer type of display does it?

Thanks,
TomZ

The LED's are capable of backlighting the volume knob, one of the effects is a blue fade in, fade out that gives it a breathing effect. There will be more technical data posted soon. I have seen this little volume pot/board in action with the Sure board you have and it looked and operated beautifully.

Okay thanks Rich.

I think I'll wait a bit and see what this thing looks like. I have a Seagate hard drive that does that fade in-out thing and it looks really cool.

Thanks for the heads-up.
