It's Christmas time again... time for budget gift builds. and with a new table saw and mitre saw this year, i think i did 4 pair. (i cleared out some old stock this year that were already built, but also did some new ones and a couple designs from scratch). one of my favorites, though, was this Nano Neo pair built in tall, thin towers instead of bookshelves. it's the middle pair in the light oak color.

the revised cabinet is 5" w x 5.5" d x 35.5" tall, from .656" pine. it has 6 braces, (3 side-side, 3 front-back). the cabinet has some resonance to it, but not as much as you'd expect, and it still sounds good. the port needed an elbow to fit in this cabinet. it's about 4" off the ground in the back, with the pvc elbow epoxied to the wood.

as i mentioned in the main thread, i'm very impressed with the design and the overall sound quality in such a small package. they really do get decent bass in room.

(also, for anyone who cares, the darker set is a MTM-TL using the jamo 20435 woofer and 20138 tweeter, which are NLA. details are here (http://techtalk.parts-express.com/showthread.php?t=218757&highlight=jamo+20435). total cost was competitive with the neo's).

Hi Patrick
I like your nanotube pine cabinets a lot. I have a pair of Mantika (Solen kit) cabinets that are waiting for speakers to be up and running. They are 0,56 cubic foot and I was wondering if the ND105-4 would be a good match. I would also use the tweeters of the nano. Any help with the tuning and crossover would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much
Frank

I've considered doing something like this but with 4 of the woofers in series-parallel

Looks real nice

thanks frank - i'd check the nano neo build thread (or chris roemer's profile) for the "ntn" (mtm) version, which i think was for about .5 cu ft or so. that would make sense, since about .32 ft3 was recommended for one, and that's two in series.

for 4 woofers, i think you'd need a bit more space, or you'd be paying a penalty in the FR with a hump from an undersized cabinet... i think 1-2 would fit this look very well, but as you start approaching 1 cu ft., your cabinet can only get so deep while maintaining a relatively narrow baffle before it looks out of proportion with such small drivers. if that's your goal, then go for it, but i'm not sure it would look great... maybe do a sketchup to see the proportions first. it might also be worth modeling the ND90 to see what size 4 of those would want and what the low end response would be.

Here you go. 0.56 cf is perfect for my "ntn"s. Search my Nano Neos thread for more info.

Thanks very much for your replies gentlemen. I'll go ahead and use the suggested ntn configuration of Chris. What would be the appropriate vent dimensions in my 0,56 c/f cabinet?

Thanks again

I'm using 2"id x 8" for a taget tuning near 40 Hz.
2d x 7 would be OK if 8" won't fit (slightly higher tuning).

I you can't fit in 7", you'll have to downsize the vent, against my recommendations.
