:D This is my first speaker. There was not much design but I love it.! It uses a 12" paper cone woofer from goldwood, a Pyramid TW18BK Bullet Horn Super Tweeter Pair Black, at least 3 pounds of polyfill, plywood (works better for me) or mdf and a Bass stopper at 2000 hertz for 4 ohms. I use 1 1/2 long nails to put the box together. It is 27 1/2 inches tall, it's width is 20 inches and the depth is 14 inches. This is the outside dimensions. I use Battens to brace the box. I used 1 inch pine and cover around 2/3 of the edges. I use silicone every where in the speaker. You can choose the terminal cup. There is an attachment.

I was worried about that...:p

Seriously, no crossover? Just a bass stopper? Yikes! I'm glad you like 'em, but I'll bet you'll like 'em even more if you at least throw a two way off the shelf xo in there.....

This design is likely only a starting point for the OP. Technically, there 'is' a crossover, just a single non-polar electrolytic cap pre-calculated for a 4-ohm driver at 2000 Hz on the tweeter (which is what a 'bass-stopper' is), with the woofer run wide open.

I'll bet they get loud, but become difficult to listen to after a while, and a proper crossover could certainly improve those.

This kind of "xo" was not unheard of, back in the day in the Big Box stores' cheaper speakers. Not to derail the OP, but that's how my circa 1985 North American Sound "Monitor" speakers are designed, with the "xo" at 3500. However, the woofer has a very smooth roll-off, so that kind of XO is adequate. But your prediction that they become difficult to listen to, as well as able to get very loud, is pretty accurate in my NAS system. dthomas calls them "shouty." Just as an aside, reading the brochure on them, you would think that they were the best speakers ever made.

I was thinking the same thing. My start was a shoe box, 2 mids from a radio shack optimus 80 pair of speakers with blown woofers, no crossover, but there were holes cut into the shoebox for venting...

... I was 13.

Good on ya man! They will ALWAYS sound good to you too. I no loger have the shoebox, but a couple of older pairs I remenice with now and again.

Don't let them get to you if you like them I love mine and will make some 2 ways for rear speakers this spring if everything goes well .

I bought some cardboard boxes and lined them with carpet from lowes. put 2 2" ht surround drivers in each one. then i got some ribbon tweeters from o'reilly for 17 bucks... never really finished them, though. maybe i should

nice start. for your next step you could add a sealed back midrange. looks to be room. off the shelve three-way.

Just looking at what you chose to start with you might consider an OB for your next build? Easy to build with room to tweak things. Just a thought. Beware, this hobby is berry addictive, hope you have a supportive Significant Other!

Aww, jeez, I wish you would have said that at the beginning! I would NEVER have sniffed at it like that. My apologies.:(

At 12, I was wondering if I might possibly be able to get the girl sitting next to me to maybe hold my hand....speakers only existed to me as something you bought and listened to, building them didn't ever begin to enter my mind at that age.

You have indeed made a great start. And, again, I apologize for my misguided crack.:o

If I recall correctly, at that time I was wondering what I was supposed to do with all the little do-dads that came with some little crystal radio set I got for Christmas.

I built my first set when I was 16, using Radio Shack drivers. I still have those 6.5" woofers :)

Hah! I remember those days! The set I got was the Radio Shack Project board, with a bunch of little springs that you used to wire the different components together with to make an LED display, and a buzzer, and a siren, and a whole bunch of other stuff that I can't recall at the moment....

Good times....good times!:)

I remeber those! I got one for Christmas probably around 15 years ago. I made just about everything it could do, but the radio. Guess it was too many wires for an overly anxious 15 year old lol.
