i've heard my wife joke to others that (like most of you guys), "yes we have speakers in our house - all over the house".
so, last night when i told her i was going to send 3 or 4 pairs home with a friend who lives 6hrs away so he can review them in his home and decide what he wants me to build, she turns to me with a puppy dog look and says- "but, will we have any speakers left?".
do you think it's time to build more?

It's ALWAYS time to build more!!!! :D
The sign of a great spouse is when she takes pride in her mate's work and passion, along with him. Just make sure you support her interests in a similar fashion.
If mama ain't happy, no one is.

Pete,
That might be the best advice you have ever imparted! Wise words, indeed!

I stay out of trouble by adhering to the 4 to 1 plan. I build 4 sets of speakers for me and then build a dining table or something for her.

Now if I could only build a dining table
Oh wait, there's always a bathroom remodel :)

Spouse? What spouse?
Yeah, I've heard of those. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your viewpoint, I've never had the chance to experience that concept. It takes a fairly special woman to be with a crippled guy w/o the usual preconceived notions and ridiculous stereotypical judgements about my abilities. After riding all over North America on my motorcycle, meeting & consorting with countless women, I've found that men don't have exclusivity concerning how important "looks" are. Don't think men are the only gender that act that way. At least I don't have to be concerned about keeping a woman happy so everyone else can be happy...how about being responsible for your own happiness. Happiness is something that happens first, within each person, not something that "happens" to you or something that you get externally. If your spouse and you work well together with love and respect, that's what's fulfilling. I admire the gents here that have that kind of relationship with their wife, the ones who respect and encourage each others interests/hobbies. We can't all be speaker-designers/builders and motorcyclists...I'm still looking for that girl who has her own motorcycle, knows how to ride it properly and can look past physical appearance.

If i've said it once i've said it a million times, the ones where we can buy high end speakers are restricted by the wife factor. We, the ones, who can justify spending $200 on a set of Morel matching tweets realistically cannot purchase because of the wife factor. We pinch pennies here, we diy here, we engineer here, all to support our love for sound. I would love to drop $5K on a set of crazy towers and could but, its just not worth the fight and discomfort that the wifey could produce!
Now saying that, my wife and daughter simply enjoy my handi-work and efforts to create the sound they are listening to. When I explain all that goes on behind the scenes to create the sound: damping, clay, spikes, de-coupling the transducers, blah, blah, blah, they just look at me like i'm crazy. But, when I walk in the living room, who's there in the sweet spot soaking up the sound??? My girls. I must have done something right...

Hey, my wife and daughter are both going to Europe this summer for 6 weeks (see how many DIY projects that's worth) AND they just got themselves a frickin' rabbit. I had been trying my best to veto this idea for the past year, but finally lost.
So, its PAYBACK TIME!
Ideas include the Emotiva UMC-1, adding some Scan-Speak/Seas drivers to the inventory, new measurement gear, or a crazy monster project (the dual 15" woofer plus MMTMM kind). I deserve it, right?
