Hello All,
I just got a new laptop today and I want to transfer the files from my old laptop to the new one. As I was setting-up the new one, I got a message that said I could use Microsoft File Transfer Manager. I downloaded and installed it on both computers, but haven't a clue how to use it. There is nothing to use to select files, locations from which to pull the files, or anything I can see that will allow this program to start selecting and moving files, once it's opened.
Any suggestions on either how to use it or maybe a better way to pull the files (email, my documents, music, etc.)?
Thanks,
Mike

It looks like its a utility for splitting large files inot smaller segments to transfer over the net, then combine at destination. Doesn't look like its what you want.
FWIW, I wouldn't recommend responding to popup messages and installing files w/o some checking first. Some clever spoofers out there.

( Used to use it quite a bit on older OS machines )

Sydney,
Thanks but that's what I downloaded and installed. Tabs are mentioned, but I can't find any. Maybe it's like fastbike posted; just a utility for splitting files?
Thanks,
Mike

A better suggestion would be to direct copy over network, or copy to an external flash drive or hard drive, using the built in copy function of windows explorer. No 3rd party utility is needed to do this.

Mike,
I’m assuming that you want to transfer files from an older XP Laptop and the new laptop is Windows 7? If this is the case then these two links should get you on your way.
There are many ways to do this, over a network, a USB data transfer cable, external drive, USB memory stick.

Trying to make something that is not difficult easier always makes it worse.
You're always better off manually copying the files you want, and re-installing the apps you need.
use a USB memory stick to copy files from one to another. a 2 or 4gb one is only $10
