Have you downloaded the most current version on WT3 from DAYTON.COM?

Did the trick for me when I moved to Win7.

I've had that same error before. I don't know for certain what corrected it, but I went through the whole installation/setup process and it cleared up. You need to make sure that you follow the directions for the specific version of Windows you're using.

Hi:

Running version 2.0.0 in Windows 7 x32 (32-bit). It's run pretty much flawlessly since I installed it.

I find mine won't give a good reading unless it's had a full minute to warm up.
Also check the leads, inside the case. Mine came through with a cold solder joint on one that I had to fix before it would work.

the first one i got was dead in the water. this one worked fine when asked under winxp. i suspect that i plugged it in before the software intall completion and windows asumed it was a speaker and installed drivers in a flash. tomarrow i will restore it to an earlier time and try again.

i ran system restore to the 3rd and reinstalled and made the correct setting in windows. same results. is it possible that it being plugged into a hub could be the problem? it is a powered hub.

Arlis, that is possible. There has been some talk about using the same USB port every time you use the WT3, and if there are other things plugged into the hub... maybe.

Also, what is this version 2 software of which we speak? Where is the download link? Is this a free upgrade?

OK, I found the upgrade page and I don't know if the $20 is worth it (to me for basically rub and buzz detection?) plus I do not know what constitutes proof of purchase on the internet... Mine was also purchased before Jan 1, 2011 so does that mean I cannot upgrade to the newest version anyway? Hmmm.... seems a new thread is in order for these questions.

I mean, the rub and buzz feature is a killer inclusion, but I am not in a production environment. The LCR measurement capability in the new version though...

I contacted Sharon @ support@trueaudio.com gave her my customer no. at Partsexpress and she emailed the latest version no charge. WT III never worked right for me on the PC it was installed on, this cured everything ( not my allergies ) and appears to give repeatable readings very quickly.

I'm running WT3 purchased a month ago, bundled with the latest software version 2.0.

I can't get it to work on my Windows 7 32bit laptop, which is a nuisance, but on a borrowed XP laptop it works like a dream.

And yes, I follow the installation instructions to a tee, uninstall/reinstall software, let the thing warm up for minutes not just 90secs.

The only thing I haven't done(learnt how to do in Windows 7) is uninstall/reinstall the USB Audio codec drivers of the WT3...

I purchased the same thing(WT3 w/ 2.0 cd) about the same time you did.

I followed the enclosed directions as to setting up each usb port for it to work on.

I just tried it for the first time after seeing this thread.

Test lead resistance was .27ohms.

I'm using Windows 7 64bit.

i just went to device manager to try to update, browsed to the wt3 cd. windows says a suitable driver could not be found!
so i took my win7 laptop and plugged it in, waited, opened the program and the hardware could not be found!
i hope they read this and look for an answer.

ok, it seems that wt3 turns the speakers off and makes it usb speakers. i kept disabling the usb speakers in place of the ones on the soundcard. it seems thats what wt3 needs to work. it works fine now. ta daaaaaaaaaaa.

I personally think this WT3 is nothing but junk. Save your money Folks.Save an extra $60 and buy the WT2 least that works. My software won't even start as soon as i click on it I get an error message that says WT3 has stopped working.I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing. It is a waste of $100

And to top it off they want another $20 for an upgrade C'mon.I've had it less than 7 months. And tested 4 woofers total.

Mine works GREAT, and I got it on Sale for $69. Had it almost a year and a half now and wouldn't want to have to get by without it.

Your going to tell me that it gives you consistent results too Chris ?

Every reading I ever took with it gave me different results and nothing even close to the previous test. JUNK !

IMO it is a Rip-Off then they have the Audacity to charge you another $20 to fix it with a so called upgrade !

You paid $69 I have one for sale cheaper than that even comes packaged with a $.10 scale if someone wants it.It is Brand New I used it 4 times to measure 4 Altec 416's It's Junk !;)

Or maybe I should say the software is Crap that is what is giving me the most problems. After a couple of hours I can squeeze out a reading or two when I first received it.You should consider yourself Blessed ! Now it won't start,I took it to the local mechanic he kicked it a few times and told me he couldn't get it started either. :D

Well, I get consistent results as well. Got the very first results after two minutes of warmup following a painless installation. Calibrated the leads, the resistor, and another precision resistor I use to check my DVM. Everything worked. Also got consistent measurements close to mfr on 4 RS180S, across several sets of measurements.

Problem is now it won't start (Software) as soon as i click on the desktop Icon I get an immediate error message !

That the WT3 has stopped working.I tried to Uninstall/reinstall the software with the same result.I hardly used it ! I can't even get the software to start period, so you can see my point of view, can't you ?

Throwing a $100 down the toilet is a little Ridiculous IMO ! I was working on a project for work and my speaker project so by the time I got everything all setup I missed my 45 day return time (Date). It was Brand New so I din't think i was going to have this serious of a problem right out of the gate, otherwise i would have tested it sooner.I bought all this test gear just for this project I'm doing.Aside from checking that everything was in the box that was it until I was ready for the testing part.I work full time,I'm not retired yet so my time was only put into it mostly on weekends. And with my cabinets still having to be built at the time I didn't get to it Unfortunately.Like I said it is crap right out of the box ! And to top it off. I bought the package with the scale which is also junk. That was dead right out of the box, batteries were dead. They were $14 for new batteries at Rat Shack it takes 3 watch batteries.WRT Parts-Express as a parts store they get a D- in my opinion I also bought a Mic stand that the box looked like it was in Iraq for a couple years. The locking lever on it was bent.I can live with that but the WT3 is ******* me off to no end. I really should have sent the whole order back,so I'm not to thrilled with the parts and acessories that they (PE) sell.I can correct future purchases though.Like buying somewhere else.

I use XP on all my computers. That said, I've had the wt3 for over a year and a half (although, I did upgrade to the wt2 recently for some of the extra features) and it never gave me any issues on any computer. However, it would take a while to boot up. I think you're supposed to wait 90 seconds before taking measurements.

Anyway, I did repeatedly get consistent results with mine. I actually wish I still had it just for the quickness and ease of use but the wt2 has a few more features I wanted so I sold the wt3 to get the wt2.

You's don't understand what I'm saying. The software crashes instantly ! How am I going to give it 90 second boot time when it won't start because it crashes. Windows error reporting pops up a message APP CRASH. :(

I guess I'll put in on eBay cheap

Hi Altec Best,

I'm sorry to hear you have had problems getting your WT3 working. I designed the WT3 to provide precision impedance measurements and extract Thiele-Small parameters...not to give anybody a headache! So let's see if we can't get you up and running.

That it is crashing at startup suggests to me it is a hardware configuration problem. It might be that the USB port is not set up correctly or that some other audio device is interfering. Try disconnecting any other audio devices and reviewing the Quick Start setup instructions for your version of Windows. Note that each USB port remembers its settings separately from the other ports. So it's best to always use the same USB port for WT3 (or set them all as required for WT3).

Once you identify the setup/interference problem and calibrate the system you will be able to quickly make accurate and repeatable measurements.

I'm sorry that you consider the $19.95 upgrade to the new software to be a "rip-off". I thought it to be a really good deal to offer a Rub and Buzz measurement system upgrade for $19.95 when anywhere else it would cost kilo-bucks. The new rub and buzz test even works in noisy production environments with no need for the acoustic isolation chamber normally required by other rub and buzz detection software. Anyone interested in the new version of WT3 with QC Pack should browse the brochure here:

http://www.trueaudio.com/wt3/downloads/WT3%20QCP%20brochure.pdf

In any event, I hope you get your system up and running and reconsider your opinion of the WT3.

Regards,

John
