I already have the woofers and I made a full range speaker a few years ago. I'm not that great with design (still have a ton to learn) and they have too much break up on top end. I can build the ones linked for about $50 in parts + wood and it would be used with a t-amp that I already have.

My question is, would putting the port in the rear really change anything? They looked crowded and unattractive in the front. I know they can't be pushed too close to a wall or on a bookshelf with a rear port, but is their any reason not to do it?

I haven't built the Amethyst, but I know Lou's designs are solid. Being a 4 ohm design it will work great with a t-amp. Go ahead and relocate the port. Just be mindful of how close you place to walls, etc.

I built the Amethysts and run them off my Lepai Amp and Behringer USB audio interface from my Mac Mini PC . They are excellent sounding small speakers.
I used the Overnight Sensation Cabinets and mounted the port on the front . They sound great and Lou shares his work with everyone via his web site . Thanks Lou !
They have a more full range sound than the Overnight Sensations which we have in the kitchen ,but not the same Bass SQ of the HI-Vi woofer . Both excellent , just different

You can move the port wherever you want. Keep the driver & baffle geometry the same and you'll get pretty much the same response as designed.

Thanks Lou. Your design was exactly what I wanted to do, but my design skills are not up to the task (hopefully yet).

I'm looking forward to hearing.
