I have a few clever designs in mind for this woofer, however I don't necessarily want to re-invent the wheel. I realize that the XLS have been extremely popular drivers ever since they came out, but I don't actually know what sort of completed projects people have made with them (aside from the standard 1 cu ft box with a PR on the side). I'm interested in both commercial and hobbyist designs.

Phil Bamberg had the 10" rear-fire with the 12" drone on the side, and it was a larger alignment. This was the bottom of his 'System 5' design.

Rick Craig had the 'Bwomp'.

John "Flick" Filickey had the 12" in a front-fire with a mess-load of 1" ports.

I can't think of any others right now. I have heard the first and third ones I listed.

The most obvious one to me would be SL's Orion. You don't see much use of them in 3-ways though. :)

Oh, and one of the NaO Note versions uses them too.

The most obvious one to me would be SL's Orion. Yep. But only through ORION 3.3 . . . the new "commercial" ORION 4 uses a custom Seas woofer . . . (which may be retrofittable to the earlier design as a "3.4" variant, although why anyone would bother escapes me . . .).

So far so good, guys. I could swear there's lots more, but these are a good help. Interestingly, I haven't seen anything looking like what I had in mind ... yet.

Too bad about wesnor's page. The graphics that don't show are the crossover for the woofer!

But you know that many Orion owners WILL bother, and I'd expect a flood of used 10" Peerless drivers coming to the market around late summer. Each pair of Orions uses 4 of them.

It might just be time for someone to get a design together in anticipation.
