Newb looking for some help with a ported enclosure design, using the HiVi sp10 and Bash 300. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good call I forgot about that one. Bash amp and everything.

Yah, I've got a soft spot for that Carmody fella's designs. ;)

Seen both designs before posting. I was just curious if there were others. Pauls does look good. This being my first attempt at a build I wanted to go off of a proven build and since I have about month long wait before the HiVi arrives I've got some time for planning. Anyone know if that's a regular pvc elbow he used or something else.

Here's one that is to-be built with the 500W BASH:

It's not just that I'm biased for my own design, but I have some serious technical issues with that design over at that diyaudioprojects site. (post #6 in the link below)

Paul, have you heard any chuffing noises from the port while running sweeps? 3" seems small for that driver. I tried to buy two of those at the tent sale but they were out of stock. I've still got my eyes on them, though they're still out of stock, but still on special.

I used the HiVi SP-10 in a small sealed box with the Dayton 1k amp. You're right, it needs a bunch of boost on the low end to sound like a sub, but done right, it sounds pretty good. It likes the power. I'm thinking about dual subs using the Dayton 1k rack amp. I'd like to avoid the plate amp scenario with that driver. My version though small weighed 105 lbs. I called it the "HiVi-105" I used a 3" baffle and 2" sides/top. It still shakes. That driver is not of this world!

Sorry for the partial Hijack

I was definitely worried about that when I designed it, so I pushed them as much as I could with low sweeps and stuff to make sure. I think the roundover helped quite a bit to ease port velocity, plus the bottom-mounting of the port faced the port away from the listener. The only time it really chuffed for me was before I sealed the cabinet, and air was violently trying to escape out the but joints of the cabinet! Once I sealed it with some caulk, I got no chuffing, even with big, low sine waves.

I don't think I can wait a month to build my sub. I just finished my flexy rack a week ago (would post pics but my camera is not working) and I've got the itch to build. I think I've finally figured out WinIsd after struggling for a couple nights, except for attaching it here. What i came up with: Dayton rss265hf-4, 2.5 cubic ft enclosure, tuned at 23.6, with a 3" diameter port 11.22 in. long. Looks flat down to about 25hz. This sound about right.

Sounds about right. I believe Wolf used the RSS265 in a sub design. You might check that out and see how similar it is to yours.

Nope- I've not personally used that driver. I have experienced it a lot though.

Your port velocity should be pretty high with that vent. I get ~35 m/s. You might want to go to 3.5 or 4"

You have quite a bit of flexibility in size. Try a 37 liter net tuned to 27 Hz. Also look pretty good.

What passive was that modeled with ? How much volume needs to be added for that monster magnet and pr or is 1.3 ft3 the final volume.

CSS 12" passive. I'll likely add just a bit due to the magnet size. Once I figure out the extras inside, it may not amount to much and I may just ignore it.

It'll likely depend on getting the measured required tuning.

Interesting. I have always wanted to try the sp10 and since it can work in that small of a box I just might. Would be way overkill for me but there aren't too many subs that can go that low in a box that size.

Truth be told I actually 'upsized' the box a bit and replayed the model. I needed a certain volume to make a certain height requirement. It will play in a smaller box, just look at the Carver sub- it's the same driver. I think the first model is closer to 1ft^3, maybe less. I'd have to look on the PC a bit to find it....

I thought I read that this sub had different specs than the carver sub? I would like to build a carver sized sub but I don't have windows so I can't model anything. Well besides winisd and sometimes it even freezes on me. Might be time to build a pc.

HiVi now supplies Carver with the drivers, even though it was first a Ground Zero and then a TC. HiVi is now the supplier, and Jeff verified the specs.

Sunfire site actually says it is a 11.5 in. cube so it is smaller than 1 ft3. I assume it must use a little boost on the low end.

Their design is that small, but the Passive has a 1/2" thick aluminum plate on it! It measures flat to 13 Hz according to Jeff.

Since I used a 12" passive, I had to go bigger.

Just a little. I'm pretty sure the amp on that thing is rated for 2300W.

Same driver
Very little boost
cabinet is around .40 cu ft
1800 Watts is real
Hits 15Hz in room before rolling off
